Canberra‘s New Lyric Theater Designs Unveiled, Drawing Inspiration from Local Landscape
CANBERRA โ- Detailed designs for Canberra’s โคnew lyric theatre have been revealed, showcasingโค a building โinspired by the region’s natural habitat and informed by extensive โขcommunity consultation. The theatre, set too be built near theโค Canberra Theatre center, โขwill feature a design incorporating natural forms and textures, and aims to accommodate performers, audiences, and โคstaff effectively.
The designs were released โคas part of the Works Approval request โฃlodged with the Nationalโ Capital Authority.โข ACT Chief Minister Andrew Barr stated the design “reflects โขour landscape and celebrates First Nations’ culture.” Heโ added that the detailed plans “respond to the needs of theโ people who will watch performances, โthe โperformers who will take the stage, and the staff who will work โขin the venue, which has been guided by extensive community consultation throughout the planning and design process.”
The theatre will be located north-west โof the current Canberra โTheatre Centre, bordering Northbourne Avenueโ and Vernon Circle, on the site of the existing โTheatre Lane car park. That car park will close โnext monthโค to facilitate early works, with major construction anticipated to begin early next year.
