Title: Michael & Susan Dell Donate $6.25B to Boost Children’s Investment Accounts

Billion-Dollar Boost for Child ⁤Savings: Dell Family Pledges $6.25 Billion to ‘Trump Accounts’

WASHINGTON (AP) – Michael and Susan Dell have committed $6.25 billion to encourage families‌ to utilize newly established ⁣”Trump Accounts,” investment vehicles designed to build wealth⁢ for America’s children. The unprecedented⁢ philanthropic commitment⁢ aims to seed accounts and incentivize contributions ⁢from businesses,‌ governments, and individuals, though experts caution the program’s⁣ immediate impact on childhood poverty will be limited.

The “Trump Accounts,” formally known as child investment accounts, were included ‍in a recent spending package and allow for contributions to grow over time. While the accounts won’t ⁢immediately⁤ alleviate existing financial hardship, proponents ⁤envision them ‌as a long-term strategy for wealth building, notably for children from low-income families. The ‍Dell’s donation, channeled through the Michael & Susan Dell Foundation, represents a significant down payment on the concept, with the couple ‌increasing thier initial commitment over time.

“We’re thrilled⁣ to ⁤be spearheading this in⁣ the philanthropy sector and are so⁣ excited as we certainly know⁤ that more people are going⁤ to jump on board because really, we can’t think‍ of a better idea and better way to help America’s children,” Susan Dell said.

The foundation has historically focused on education, reporting $2.9 ‍billion in giving since 1999. The new initiative builds on that commitment, aiming to provide a⁣ financial foundation for future generations.⁢

However, the benefits of ‍the “Trump Accounts” are occurring alongside cuts to existing social safety nets. Reductions to⁤ Medicaid, food ‍stamps, and child care programs included in the same spending package are expected to diminish support for children in low-income families.

Ray ⁤Boshara, senior policy advisor with the Aspen Institute and Washington University in st. Louis, expressed⁣ optimism about the potential of the accounts, noting‍ that large-scale policies ‌often ‍evolve and improve over time.”The ⁢ACA, Social Security ‌- they start off fairly flawed, but‍ get much better and more progressive and inclusive over time. And⁢ that’s how we⁣ think about Trump Accounts. It’s a ‍down payment on a big idea that deserves to be improved and there’s bipartisan interest ⁣in improving them.”

Tennessee House Election: Trump Backs Republican in Key Special Race

by Emma Walker – News Editor December 2, 2025

Tennessee ⁣Voters Head to Polls in Closely Watched Special Election

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Tennessee voters⁤ are casting ballots Tuesday in‌ a special election to fill ⁢the vacant seat in the state’s ‍5th Congressional District, a contest viewed ⁤as an early indicator of political ⁤momentum heading into the 2024 election cycle. The race pits ‌Republican Kurt Van Epps against Democrat⁢ Keeda Haynes, and has drawn national attention amid ‍concerns ⁤about former ⁣President Trump’s approval⁤ ratings and economic ⁢dissatisfaction.

The election⁤ was triggered by the expulsion of former Representative Andy Ogles⁤ earlier this ⁢year. Democrats see⁣ a potential ⁢possibility to narrow the gap in a traditionally conservative district, signaling a ⁤shift in ⁢the political landscape. ‌Republicans, though, remain confident in their ability to defend the seat.

Early voting began during Thanksgiving week, raising concerns about potential turnout challenges. Former ‍President Trump held a virtual rally in November to support van Epps, a former state general services commissioner and ‍Army‌ helicopter pilot.

The campaign ⁣has been marked by sharp attacks. Republicans have highlighted past comments made by Haynes, including ⁤her self-description as a “radical,” claims ⁣of “bullying” immigration ⁤agents and state police officers, ‍and past criticisms of Nashville, where she onc⁣ stated,⁢ “I hate this city.” Haynes has largely responded by focusing on cost of living issues and clarifying her‍ vision⁣ for nashville as a place “where working people can thrive.”

Haynes, a self-proclaimed “pissed-off social worker,” has positioned herself as ‌a contrast to Van Epps on key policy issues, condemning Trump’s tariffs and tax cut legislation, and criticizing Republicans’ initial reluctance to release files related to ⁣sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. Van Epps‍ initially opposed a House ⁣vote to compel the ⁣Justice Department to ⁣disclose more⁢ Epstein documents, but later‌ changed his position to align with President Trump after the president endorsed the measure.

Meanwhile, Democratic ‍allies have attempted to siphon support from Van Epps ⁢by ‌encouraging conservative⁤ voters to back autonomous candidate Jon Thorp, through mailers funded by Your⁤ Community PAC, which has spent ‌over $16 million supporting Democratic candidates nationwide since last year.

Title: Lawsuits: USA Gymnastics, SafeSport Faulted for Failing to Stop Coach’s Abuse

by Priya Shah – Business Editor December 2, 2025
written by Priya Shah – Business Editor

Lawsuits allege USA Gymnastics, SafeSport Ignored Abuse Reports Against Former Coach

INDIANAPOLIS – ‌Multiple lawsuits filed this week accuse USA Gymnastics and SafeSport, the national governing body for Olympic and Paralympic sports,⁢ of failing to protect gymnasts‌ from alleged abuse by former coach Sean Gardner. The suits claim negligence in responding to‌ repeated reports of Gardner’s misconduct spanning several years.

The lawsuits were brought by ⁤two former gymnasts,Finley Weldon, who publicly shared her allegations⁢ with the Associated Press, and 19-year-old University of Iowa student Hailey Gear, who is also seeking to come forward. They are seeking unspecified⁢ damages to cover injuries and treatment expenses. Several other former‌ gymnasts⁤ have also reported abuse, with additional lawsuits anticipated.

The allegations ⁣detail a pattern of concerning‌ behavior by Gardner, beginning as early as December 2017, when parents filed ⁤reports with USA gymnastics and SafeSport alleging he required lengthy hugs from girls after training sessions in Mississippi ‌and⁤ ostracized a gymnast who refused.Further claims include ⁤an improper closed-door meeting with a gymnast where verbal abuse⁢ occurred, kissing gymnasts on the forehead, excessive alcohol consumption in⁤ front of athletes, sexually suggestive jokes, inappropriate social media ⁤contact, and stalking a gymnast after being instructed to‌ cease interaction.

In⁤ January 2018, Gardner’s supervisor reportedly alerted USA ‍gymnastics to “grooming behaviors,” yet he continued to coach.‌ A further report concerning “improper behaviors” by ‍Gardner was allegedly⁣ received by SafeSport in September 2020, but was not investigated.

The⁤ lawsuits also name Qiao, founder of Chow’s Gymnastics and former coach to Olympic‍ gold medalists Shawn Johnson and Gabby ‌Douglas, ‌his wife Liwen Zhuan, also a⁢ coach at the gym, and their family corporations. The plaintiffs allege Qiao and Zhuan failed to adequately vet Gardner‍ before hiring him and continued ‍his employment despite complaints of inappropriate touching during spotting.

Chow’s Gymnastics⁢ stated Gardner passed a standard background check and was terminated⁣ after his suspension by⁤ SafeSport in July 2022, despite “there had been no finding of ⁤misconduct at that time.” Qiao and Zhuan have ⁢not yet responded to requests for comment.

The AP generally does not identify victims of sexual abuse unless they come forward publicly.

Ex-Trump lawyer Habba disqualified as New Jersey’s top federal prosecutor

Ex-Trump Lawyer Habba Removed as ‍New Jersey’s acting U.S. ‍Attorney

TRENTON,⁣ N.J. – A federal judge on Friday disqualified former‍ President Donald Trump’s attorney, Alina Habba, from serving as the acting U.S. Attorney⁣ for New Jersey, effectively ending her‌ controversial tenure leading the state’s federal law enforcement. The ruling stems‌ from a legal challenge arguing Habba’s repeated appointments circumvented established federal procedures for selecting the state’s top prosecutor.

The decision throws the future of the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of New Jersey into uncertainty, impacting ongoing federal investigations and prosecutions within the state. Habba’s appointment, repeatedly extended by Attorney General Pam Bondi despite ⁢objections from New Jersey’s Democratic senators and a prior attempt by ‍federal judges to install a career prosecutor, ignited a dispute over presidential authority versus established legal protocols. The case underscores the ongoing tension between the executive branch and the judiciary regarding appointments to key law enforcement‍ positions.

Habba’s initial temporary appointment faced scrutiny in July‌ as it neared expiration, with Senators Cory Booker and Andy Kim signaling they would not support a permanent nomination. Following this, federal judges in New Jersey attempted to replace Habba with a career prosecutor already ‌serving ⁤as her second-in-command. However, Bondi later dismissed the prosecutor and re-appointed Habba in an acting ⁤capacity, prompting ‍the Justice ⁢Department to assert Trump’s authority to select his preferred ⁤candidate.

Judge⁤ John M.Brann‘s ruling steadfast that the president’s appointments remain subject to the limitations and power-sharing ⁤rules outlined in federal law. The Justice Department had argued the judges acted prematurely, but Brann’s decision affirms ⁢the judiciary’s role in overseeing the appointment process.

The legal challenge highlighted concerns that Habba’s‌ political affiliations and lack of traditional prosecutorial experience were inappropriate for the position. Her primary background is in civil litigation, representing Trump in various legal battles. The ruling effectively reinstates the process‌ for a permanent U.S. Attorney appointment, perhaps leading to a nominee vetted and confirmed through the Senate.

Title: Jon Sumrall Emerging as Florida’s Next Head Coach Candidate

by Emma Walker – News Editor November 29, 2025
written by Emma Walker – News Editor

GAINESVILLE, Fla.(AP) - The ‌University of Florida ‌is targeting Tulane coach Jon Sumrall as its⁣ next head football coach, a person with knowledge of the search said Friday. The move comes after Florida fired Billy Napier in mid-October following a 22-23⁢ record ⁣over four seasons.

Sumrall, who has led ⁤Tulane to a 25-4 record over three seasons,‌ would represent a shift in ⁣direction for the ⁢Gators, who had‍ also ⁤pursued other‌ high-profile candidates like Louisville’s Jeff⁣ Brohm and washington’s Jedd Fisch.Florida athletic director Scott⁣ Stricklin‌ is seeking a ‌coach ⁣to revitalize a program that has struggled in the⁤ Southeastern⁣ Conference, where Napier earned the nickname “Sun ‍Belt Billy” for perceived ⁣shortcomings⁣ against tougher competition. The pursuit of Sumrall unfolded ⁤rapidly after⁣ Lane Kiffin opted to remain at Ole Miss rather of taking the Florida job. Kiffin had been a top target for Florida fans, and his decision created a competitive situation with LSU,‍ ultimately leading him to choose ‍between the Rebels and the⁤ Tigers. sumrall’s candidacy ‍emerged as Kiffin neared his decision.

Title: No. 16 Texas Stuns No. 3 Texas A&M in SEC Championship Bid

by Alex Carter - Sports Editor November 29, 2025
written by Alex Carter - Sports Editor

COLLEGE STATION, texas ⁤(AP) – No. 16 Texas extinguished No. 3 Texas A&M‘s undefeated season⁣ with a 27-17 victory on Saturday, simultaneously dashing the Aggies‘ hopes for an SEC Championship Game berth. The longhorns’ second-half surge spoiled a previously perfect campaign for Texas A&M and injected uncertainty into⁣ the College Football Playoff picture.

The loss eliminates Texas A&M from contention for the SEC title and casts doubt on their College Football Playoff aspirations. Texas, meanwhile, bolstered its bowl game prospects with a dominant performance fueled by‍ a ‍resurgent running game. The Aggies now await the final ‌CFP rankings on Dec. 7, while Texas eyes‍ its bowl‍ destination, also‌ factoring in ‍the CFP rankings.

Texas took control in the‌ second half, spearheaded by a rushing attack that had struggled for much ⁢of the season. Quintrevion Wisner led the charge with a season-high 155 ⁣yards, adding to his extraordinary 186-yard performance against the Aggies ‌last year.

Texas A&M quarterback Max Reed briefly left the game in the first quarter after rolling his left ankle ⁢during ‍a scramble. He returned after missing only one offensive play, but the ⁢Aggies’‌ ensuing⁤ drive ⁣stalled, culminating in a blocked field goal attempt by Texas’‌ Ethan Burke.

“Their front played a ⁢lot harder⁤ than ours,” Reed said. “They just had a better game plan in the second half for us.”

The Aggies had previously held a lead, ⁤but three consecutive punts in the decisive⁤ third quarter allowed Texas to seize momentum.
