Madrid preparesโค forโ the culminatingโข stage of the Vuelta a Espaรฑa amid heightened security measures and planned protests.โค The final circuit willโ wind through central Madrid, culminating in a finish line against the backdrop of theโ city’s UNESCO-recognized landscape.
The Spanish capital anticipates over 50,000 spectators as the race concludes, but the event is shadowed by organized demonstrations planned in locations including Atocha, โคcallao, and theโค hermitage ofโค San Antonio de la Florida. Protests โare scheduled โtoโ begin as earlyโ as 4:00 p.m., with organizers encouraging participants to arrive two hours prior. These โฃdemonstrations follow incidents inโค previous stages, particularly in Bilbao and Galicia, prompting authorities to โimplement an extensive security โขoperation.
A robust security detail โof approximately 2,300 personnel-surpassing the deploymentโข for the 2022 NATO Summit-will oversee the event. Thisโข includes 1,100 National Police officers, 400 Civil Guards, โค800 Municipal Policeโ officers, 100 mobilityโฃ agents, and a dedicated Samur-Civil protection team. Local police โฃwill also contribute to security along โthe route, supplementing the standard Vuelta safety protocols.
The race route will traverse key Madrid thoroughfares, including Puerta del Sol, โฃCalle Mayor, Plaza deโ Oriente, Paseo del Prado, Gran Vรญa, and callao. The final stage featuresโ an urban circuit withโ nine โฃlaps before the finish. Vingegaard is currently leading theโค race, wearing the red jersey.
