According to the Central Bank of Lebanon, the dollar’s price on the banking platform is approximately 89,500 Lebanese pounds.
Black Market Exchange Rates
In the parallel market, the dollar’s price also saw stability today. Purchase prices hovered around 89,600 pounds, while the selling price reached 89,700 pounds.
ATM Dollar Availability
The price of dollars at ATMs is consistent with market prices, providing some stability for citizens needing access to U.S. currency.
“Dollarization” in Lebanon
Since the economic crisis began in 2019, Lebanon has increasingly relied on dollar pricing, a phenomenon known as โDurra.โ
Protests further destabilized the local lira against the dollar, impacting local banks and leading to a deterioration in the lira’s exchange rate. According to a recent report by the World Bank, Lebanon’s economic crisis is among the worst the world has seen since the mid-19th century (World Bank, 2024).
The ongoing economic challenges continue to shape the financial landscape of Lebanon.
