PETALING JAYA: Youthโข andโฃ Sports Ministerโค Hannah Yeoh has โaffirmed the National Sports Institute’s (NSI) readiness to support badminton โฃplayer Lee โคZii Jia’s recovery following his decision to conclude his 2024 competitive season due to injury. Zii Jia,โ 27, has been sidelinedโ by ankle โand back pain, prompting him to withdraw from the Syed โModi Indiaโ International tournament, effectively ending his participation for the year.
yeoh stated the NSI’s resources are available โฃto Zii Jiaโข should he require them,encouraging him to reach out to P.โค Vellapandian at the NSI for assistance. “For the NSI, we are ready to help Zii Jia โขifโฃ he needs โฃanything,” she said yesterday. “Zii Jia can contact P. Vellapandian from โคtheโ NSI, and anytime, we will help Zii Jia.”
The shuttler revealed on social media that medical โขadvice following his last โtournament, โขthe China masters in September, ledโข him โto prioritize recovery and shift his competitiveโ focus to 2026. Yeoh emphasized the importance of Zii Jia โutilizing this downtime for full โขrecovery, noting theโ demanding nature of โขthe badminton schedule and the risk of burnout if injuries are not properly addressed.
“I โpray that Zii Jiaโค will recover during this break โคtime. it’s very โcrucial to come โขback refreshed for nextโ year,” Yeoh said. “We โknow that โthe badminton schedule can be very packed, and if there โคis โan injury โand thay โฃdon’t โrecover properly, eventually they will burnโฃ out.โ That’s why we want to makeโฃ sure Zii Jia uses this time to โคfind some peace and comeโ back next year with a renewed sense โofโค purpose โfor his tournaments.”
Zii Jiaโข has expressed hope โto be fully recovered in timeโ for the Malaysian open โin January. He also shared that the โฃchallenges of the past year, both physically andโข emotionally, have inspired a new passion for art.
