CelticS incoming manager,โ Wilfried Nancy, may not fully impact the team until next season, according to former Celtic boss Martin O’Neill, creating a “no-lose” situation forโข the club as they navigate the remainder of โคthe current campaign.โ O’Neill was speaking after Nancy’s appointment, following the departure of Ange Postecoglou to Tottenham Hotspur. The forward, who scored 27 goals in 87 games for the club,โ expressed hope that Nancy can โขestablish himself โขin Scotland and across Europe. However, O’Neill believesโฃ Nancy’s full โinfluence won’t be realized โฃuntil he’s had a full pre-season to implement his methods.
“I don’t really โฃknow a lot about him,” O’Neill admitted. “As I understand โคit, he has a bit of a relationship, with โthe lad Tisdale, you โคknow, who’s Head of football Operations โ- obviously he’s convinced about his pedigree. I don’t know anything about him.”
He continued,โ “Hopefully a breath of fresh air, you know. He’s somebody that the punters don’tโ really know and if he can really hit the ground running and, breathe a โbit of confidence and continue what Martin’s done there, in these last few weeks, then he can get himself a good startโข in the club betweenโ now and the end of the season.”
O’Neill acknowledged the growing competitiveness of the Scottish Premiership, noting โฃhearts’ challenge and Rangers’ current third-place position. โDespite this, he remains confident in Celtic’s ability to secure the league title.
“And then they can startโ to establish again being the dominant force as there’s โthere’s no doubt whatsoever about it that, you know, โคHearts and even Rangers, I mean, what โฃare Rangers sitting, third at the moment?” he said. “You know certainly Hearts have shown thatโ they canโ challenge a little bit. I still thinkโ that Celtic will win the league, I think thatโ between now and the end of the season,โฃ the new manager has a chance โฃto establish himself โฃand then really kick on the following season.”
