Treatment in private clinics: interest free loans coming soon

by Chief editor of world-today-news.com December 17, 2022
written by Chief editor of world-today-news.com

A memorandum of understanding has been signed between the private clinics, the State Bank of Mauritius Limited and MauBank Limited. This is a special interest-free loan program for patients undergoing treatment in private clinics. The signing took place at the headquarters of the Ministry of Health on Friday 16 December 2022.

Initially affected are eighteen private clinics and two credit institutions, announced the Minister of Health. This list is set to grow, he said. The program will be a tripartite collaboration between private clinics, lenders and the Ministry of Health for the benefit of patients.

Minister Jagutpal explained that those wishing to benefit from this program must, in advance, obtain a medical certificate issued by a doctor and stating the need to undergo treatment. They will then need to get a quote from a licensed private hospital or clinic. The bank concerned will then grant the credit and submit a form for the repayment of the interest amount to the Ministry of Health.

The list of treatments excluded from the plan includes cosmetic surgery, hair transplantation, liposuction and any other treatment that may be approved by the Ministry of Health and the Association of Private Clinics. The Ministry will soon publish this list of treatments not covered by this programme.

Complaint against Jeetoo Hospital: 11-year-old Yan lived for 5 months with rubber in his foot

  • Christina, the mother: “Li tinn fer extra infection”

Wonderful discovery that arouses emotion and terror. A piece of rubber was found in 11-year-old Yan’s left foot. Coming from a slipper, he wedged himself in the sole of the boy’s foot when he was injured five months ago. Treated at Dr AG Jeetoo hospital, he ended up developing an infection and contracting staph. It was a clinic that operated on him to remove this foreign body on Friday December 9, 2022. The operation lasted 30 to 45 minutes.

One has to go back to Saturday July 16, 2022 to fully understand the case. “That day my son injured the sole of his left foot stepping on an iron bar. There is construction work in our yard,” says Christina.

On the same day, the child was taken to the Petite-Rivière dispensary. “The staff disinfected the wound. We gave my son a tetanus shot. Then they asked me to change his dressing every day», says the mother.

After a week of changing the bandage, he noticed something was wrong. “Monn finds ki so lipie ti pe koumans sanz kouler. Concerned, she decided to rush Yan to Dr AG Jeetoo Hospital in Port-Louis.

The same procedures were performed. “Zot inn tir lamatier. Zot inn netway please. The inn Opens zot puts the bandaz back. Zot inn dir mwa kontinye fer pansman dan dispanser,” continues Christina. She adds that when Yan went to her usual clinic appointment to change her dressing, she was informed that her wound had become infected. “I was advised to go to the hospital. »

On Friday 26th August 2022, she took her son to Dr AG Jeetoo hospital for the second time. This time the child was admitted to a ward. Christina adds that after giving Yan an initial X-ray, the attending physician told her that he did not see any foreign bodies in her foot.

The mother says the hospital performed mini-surgery on her son to drain the fluid that had collected under his skin from the infection. A sample of this substance was taken. “It was then that they told me that my son had contracted staphylococcus, which is a bacteria resistant to antibiotics,” explains the mother.

Drainage occurred daily. Christina says that on September 3, the fourth day of the dressing change, the hospital told her that her son needed general anesthesia. “’Zot dir mwa pou bizin endormi li pou grat ziska linterier sa ple-la’. They did. My son spent a few days in the hospital,” she says.

The boy obtained permission to leave on Monday 12 September. “Two weeks later, when he went to the appointment, staff saw that his foot was still infected,” the mother said. Rebelotte, Yan was again hospitalized. “Zot dir mwa ki zot pe al fer enn fold gran loperasion kot pou bizin reasormi li”, confides Christina.

She was concerned that her son was asthmatic. “But I’ve decided to trust the hospital and the doctors,” she says not without regret. Yan was hospitalized on Monday 10 October. The operation took place the next morning.

On Monday 7 November he returned home. However, his health was by no means brilliant. “He kissed me, felt his lips moist. When I took it, I found that the lipie was even more infected. The world takes him to the dispensary right away. There they told me to take him to the hospital. They shot him, he they bandaged and gave him antibiotics. My son has been on antibiotics for almost 5 months,” she said contemptuously.

Several days passed, but Yan’s condition did not improve. Christina immediately took him back to the hospital. “Letan monn demann deziem doktores ki pe get mo zanfan la kinn ariv li, li dir mwa li pa kone li mem. Monn rod koz ar premie dokter ki ti get mo garson. Zot dir mwa linn transferred. »

Christina then decided to seek the advice of a doctor in a clinic. In order for the child to be operated on, relatives, friends and colleagues have helped raise the necessary sum. Yan was finally able to undergo surgery, which lasted 30 to 40 minutes. “Klinik inn tir enn bout karotsou rouz kinn res dan so lipie depi sa zour li ti blese la. Sa karotsou sort depi so savat,” explains the mother, who cries out for medical negligence.

On Monday 12th December 2022, as her son’s condition started to improve, she filed a lawsuit against Dr AG Jeetoo Hospital for medical malpractice. She was at Central Barracks Police Station. Christina also plans to file a complaint with the hospital administration by Thursday, December 15th.

The Ministry of Health: “An investigation is underway”

The Daily Challenge contacted the Ministry of Health. “Since the hospital has not yet received the mother’s complaint, the carabinieri will contact the ministry following the procedures. We will provide all requested information. An investigation is underway. We will follow up on this case and come back with more information,” an aide said.
