Bodycam Footage Reveals Former NFL Quarterback jay Cutler‘s Attempt to Avoid DUI Arrest
WILLIAMSON COUNTY,TN – Bodycam footage released following his october 17,2024,arrest shows former NFL quarterback Jay Cutler attempting to leave the scene of a two-vehicle crash before being detained on suspicion of driving under the influence.
Cutler, who played for the Denver Broncos, Chicago Bears, adn Miami dolphins over a 12-year career, was initially involved in a minor collision with another driver. According to police reports, officers arrived to find both drivers discussing the incident and appearing to prepare to handle it privately.However, an officer’s observation of Cutler’s demeanor prompted further questioning.
“Hey, sir, can I ask you a question? How much alcohol have you had today?” the officer asked Cutler, as captured on bodycam footage.
Cutler initially responded, “Uh, none.”
The officer, identifying himself as an advanced roadside impairment detection enforcement officer, pressed further: “Don’t lie to me. How much alcohol have you had today?”
Cutler then admitted to “Umm, a little bit.”
When asked to perform field sobriety tests, Cutler refused. He was subsequently handcuffed and placed in the back of a patrol car.
Cutler was charged with driving under the influence, possessing a gun while intoxicated, failure to exercise due care, and implied consent. An arrest affidavit revealed Cutler allegedly offered the other driver $2,000 not to contact the police and allow him to drive away. A loaded Glock pistol was also found in the center console of his truck.
In August, Cutler reached a plea deal, pleading guilty to DUI in exchange for the dismissal of the other charges. He was ordered by a Williamson County judge to pay a $350 fine and serve four days in the Williamson County Jail, which he completed by the end of september.
Cutler is also serving one year of unsupervised probation, is required to attend a DUI safety class, and had his Tennessee driver’s license revoked.
The other driver involved in the crash has filed a lawsuit against Cutler, seeking $25,000 in compensatory damages for injuries sustained in the incident.
Cutler was a first-round NFL draft pick (11th overall) in 2006, selected by the Denver Broncos after playing college football at Vanderbilt University.
