Rock Legend Alice Cooper Purchases Silver-Plated Toast Rack in Online Auction
A silver-plated toast rack, estimated to be up to 40 years old, has found an unexpected new owner in Alice Cooper, the iconic “shock rock” pioneer. The 77-year-old musician, known for his six-decade career and dedication to golf, acquired the item through an online auction, highlighting the global reach of regional auction houses in the digital age.
Mr. Matthews, who facilitated the sale, described Cooper as a “golf nut,” explaining the star’s interest in the particular piece. “It turns out he’s a very nice, funny guy,” Matthews commented, adding that he believed the story would amuse people. Cooper himself has reportedly played golf daily for the past 30 years.
During a recent London performance, Cooper’s band was joined by actor Johnny depp, who performed a rendition of Black Sabbath’s “Paranoid” in tribute to the late Ozzy Osbourne. Matthews, who frequently travels to London with items purchased by his clients, was driven by curiosity to personally deliver the toast rack to Cooper. He confirmed that the musician was “delighted to receive it,” despite its modest value.
“It was a bargain for sure,” Matthews stated, expressing his hope that Cooper, whom he believes “appreciates the finer things,” will use the toast rack for his morning meals.
