NAPLES, Italy -โฃ The U.S.Navy is assisting โcivilian employees stationed at overseas bases byโ providing a letter toโ present to landlords explaining potential rent delays due to the ongoing partial government shutdown.โ The letter, distributed Monday by Navy Region Europe, Africa, Central, aims to proactively address concerns about โtimely payments.
Accordingโข toโฃ a Defense Department report from June, over 5,100โ appropriated fund civilians work at navy bases abroad.the letter details the shutdown’s impact -โข specifically, thatโค civilian workers will not receiveโ paychecks untilโ a federal appropriations bill is passed.
“Pending aโข prompt resolution of this โunforeseeable circumstance, landlords, and all those who may โคindirectlyโข be affected, should anticipate potential delays โคin the payment of the monthly rents as stipulated in the lease agreements signed with U.S. civilian personnel,”โฃ the letter states. It assures landlordsโข that employees will โคfulfill โคtheir lease โฃobligationsโค as soon as fundingโข is โrestored.
The Navy provided the letter, with translations intoโข local languages, to civilianโค workers at bases in Italy, Spain, Greece, Bahrain, andโ other locations โwithin the EURAFCENT area of responsibility. It โขwas not directly sent to landlords, according to the Naval Support Activity โNaplesโ civilian โhuman resources office.
The partial government shutdown began โOctober 1st following a Congressional impasse over appropriations. Asโค of Thursday,โค the Senate had not โadvanced funding bills, and House Speakerโค Mike Johnson indicated he would not recall the House to vote on a measure to pay service members, CBS News reported.
