Illinoisโฃ Attorney General Suesโข State Farm to compel Data Release in โคHomeowner Insurance Investigation
SPRINGFIELD, IL – Illinois Attorney General Kwame Raoul has filed a lawsuit against State Farm, the nation’s largest homeowner insurance company, seeking a court order to compelโ the company to fully cooperate with a state investigation into its homeowner insurance policies and premium practices.The lawsuit, filed in Cook County Circuit Court, aims to forceโ State Farm to provide data and data requested by the Illinois Department of Insurance (IDOI).
The IDOI launched the investigation in November 2024 following concernsโ that State Farm’s homeowner insurance premiums have risen “drastically” in recent years.while the state currently lacks the authority to regulate insurance rates-a power Gov. JBโ Pritzker has urged lawmakers toโฃ grant-the IDOI does oversee โinsurance company businessโค practices and aims to ensure a competitiveโ marketplace. The Attorneyโ General’s officeโ asserts that full cooperation from State Farm is crucialโค for effectiveโ oversight.
“We mustโ ensure all Illinois homeowners are being treated fairly,” โRaoulโค said in a news release. “State insurance โฃdepartments areโข the primaryโค regulators of insuranceโฃ companies, so it is crucially important that Stateโฃ farm, headquartered in Illinois, โคcooperate with the department’s oversight of its โคbusiness practices.” โ
Raoul is requesting the court order State Farm to comply with the IDOI’s examination โand provide necessary information to assess the state’s homeowner insurance market.State Farm, in a statement released through spokesperson Gina Morss-Fischer, โsaid the company “remains committed to collaborating with the โขIllinois Departmentโค ofโ Insurance toโ benefit Illinois customers” โขand values its partnerships with state leaders.
