KMT Lawmakers Challenge executive โขYuan‘s New Financial Plan, Citing Widening Disparities
Taipei -โ Kuomintang (KMT) caucus leader Lai Shibao has sharply criticized the โขExecutive Yuan’s revised financial plan, arguing it โwill reduce the gap โฃbetween urban and rural areas, contrary to the government’s claims. Laiโ asserted the central governmentโข should clearlyโ communicate expectations to local governments โขregarding fund allocation and usage. He indicated he will not โคproactively engage with local governments on the โmatter at this time, pending further discussion.
Lai refuted the Executive yuan’s assertion that the new plan โคwould โขexacerbate urban-rural disparities, stating, “This is black andโข white talk. The numbers can speak.”โค He pointed to โaโค shift in the central government’s financial source allocation, decreasing from 75% to 66%. โ Coordinated allocation of funds has been reduced from 62% to 54%, โขwith the resulting 8% redistributed โto otherโ county and municipal governments. Lai contends this redistribution will narrow, not widen, the gap between urban โขand rural areas.
The KMT caucus is reportedly preparing to initiateโค amendmentsโค toโ address perceived flaws in the new financial planโค formula. (Editor: Su Longqi, Su Zhizong) 1140911
