Warsaw police recorded a significant surge in car thefts in 2025, with Toyota vehicles disproportionately targeted across the city’s districts. Data released in response to a city council inquiry reveals that 140 vehicles were stolen in Ursynów, 106 of which were Toyotas. Bielany followed with 137 thefts, including 80 Toyotas, and Targówek reported 128 stolen cars, 74 of them Toyotas.
The prevalence of Toyota thefts extends beyond these districts. Praga-Południe recorded 126 thefts, while Białołęka saw 123. Other district figures include Wola (97), Bemowo (94), Wilanów (81), Mokotów (74), Wawer (57), Żoliborz (56), Wesoła (44), Włochy (41), Śródmieście (36), Ochota (35), Praga-Północ (27), Ursus (17), and Rembertów (11).
According to police data, Toyota was the most frequently stolen brand in Warsaw throughout 2025. In some districts, Toyotas accounted for over 70 percent of all vehicle thefts, reaching as high as 85 percent on Żoliborz.
Police are responding to the increase in thefts with both preventative and operational measures. Officers have been conducting patrols of unsecured parking areas and locations identified as high-risk for vehicle theft, as well as undertaking investigations that have led to arrests.
Authorities are also focusing on the illegal trade of car parts, conducting inspections of businesses and informal workshops – known as “dziuple” – to identify and disrupt the flow of stolen components. Police believe demand for parts for popular models is contributing to the rise in vehicle crime.
Komendant Krzysztof Ogroński, responding to a query from city councilor Piotr Wertenstein-Żuławski, stated that thieves are increasingly employing sophisticated technologies, including devices capable of intercepting signals from keyless entry systems.
