Tame Impala Launches ‘Deadbeat’โ Tour with New York City Debut
NEW YORK CITY – Tame Impala kicked off its world tour last night in โNew York City, marking the live debut โof tracksโ from the band’s newly released album, Deadbeat. Theโ concert showcased a blend of the band’s psychedelic rock roots and evolving electronic sound, treating fans to both classic favorites andโ fresh material.
The show at Madisonโ square Gardenโฃ featured a setlist โalternating between older hits like “Breathe Deeper,” “Elephant,” โคand “Gossip” with new, dance-oriented songs including “Dracula,” “Afterthought,” and “My Old Ways,” the latter โenhanced by a psychedelic breakdown. Deadbeat, the follow-up โto 2020’s The Slow Rush, debuted at No. 4 on the billboard 200 chart last week.
Frontman Kevin Parkerโ addressed the crowd, acknowledging theโข excitement of a tour opener.”So, as โyou โmight know, this โis the first night of the world tour,” parker said. “So thatโข means it’s aโ prettyโ epic night, and there’s nowhere more epic than โto kickโ this shit off than New York City. It also means anything can happen, and by that I โmean โฃforโ theโ better, but also, anything can fall apart at any moment, just so you know. But it’s all very โexciting and electric.”
The performance included anโฃ unconventional โฃinterlude where Parker was filmed walking offstage, โthroughโค a tunnel, and into a bathroom – the camera โฃstrategically โขfocused on hisโ shoesโ during a private moment. He then reappeared on a smaller platform at the back of the arena, surrounded by lamps and synthesizers, to โperform the โขnew songs โ”Ethereal Connection” and “not My World,” at times while lying on his back.
The setlist built to a high-energy finish with “Let Itโฃ Happen” and “Alter Ego,” theโ latterโ being the only track from the band’s 2010 debut,โ Innerspeaker. The encore featured the live debut of Parker’s Grammy-winning collaborationโข with โJustice, “Neverender,” followed by the hit โ”the โขLessโข I Knowโข the Better” and the seven-minute Deadbeat closer, “End of Summer.”
Following fall showsโ concludingโ novemberโ 17 in Los Angeles,โข Tame Impala will embark on a spring tour of Europe โand the U.K., beginning April 4 in Porto, Portugal. Parker is also scheduled โto DJ for three shows in Australia in early December, opening for Justice.
