Red Wings Add Former OHL Scout to Amateur Scouting Staff
Detroit, MI – July 23, 2025 – The detroit Red Wings have announced the hiring of Ryan Hogan as an amateur scout, filling a vacancy created by Kevin Gibson‘s departure to the USHL’s Waterloo Black Hawks in June. hogan brings a decade of experience in hockey scouting adn coaching to the Red Wings institution.

Hogan most recently served as a full-time scout for the Ontario Hockey League’s Ottawa 67’s for the 2024-25 season,focusing on players eligible for the 2026 OHL Priority Selection.Prior to his role with the 67’s, Hogan spent five years as an OHL scout with the Niagara IceDogs (2019-2024) and one season with the Mississauga Steelheads (2018-19). he was responsible for identifying and evaluating potential draft picks across Ontario, attending over 150 games annually.
His international experience includes two seasons as the video coach for the Estonian U18 national team, contributing to their readiness for the IIHF U18 World championships in 2023 and 2024.Currently, Hogan holds a position as an assistant coach with the NCAA Division III Lake Forest Foresters, based in Lake Forest, Illinois, were he assists head coach Michael Bauman with on-ice instruction and player growth.
Hogan’s roots are in Southwestern Ontario. Born in Windsor, Ontario, he played junior B hockey for the Tecumseh Bulldogs during the 2000-01 season. A teammate of his from that Bulldogs squad, Brad Holland, has also ascended in the hockey world. Holland, the son of Los Angeles Kings General Manager Ken Holland, served as a pro scout for the Edmonton Oilers from 2019-2022 and later as their Assistant General Manager from 2022-2024.
Scouting Staff Changes Reflect Yzerman’s Vision
The Red Wings’ scouting staff has undergone changes as Steve yzerman assumed the role of General Manager in 2019. Gibson’s departure to become the General Manager of the Waterloo Black Hawks created the opening filled by Hogan. Gibson joined the Red Wings’ amateur scouting staff in 2019 as part of Yzerman’s initial wave of hires, focusing on player evaluation in the Midwestern United States.

“I can’t thank the Red Wings enough for all that they have taught me,” Gibson stated following his departure. “My time with Detroit brought the chance to work with incredible
