Kochi: The High Court granted parole to Ripper Jayanand, accused in various murder cases including the double murder case. This time, the parole was granted for the release of the book ‘Pulari Viryum Prapape’, which Jayanandan wrote during his imprisonment. Parole will be on 22nd and 23rd of this month from 9 am to 5 pm. Hearing the petition, the High Court observed that Jayanand was not eligible for regular parole. But the parole was granted for two days during the day, clarifying that the constitutional courts have the authority to decide on this matter.

Parole was under full time police escort for the sake of her daughter, who is a lawyer. It was Jayanand’s first parole after 17 years in prison.

∙ Accused in many murder cases, has been in jail for more than a decade and a half

Jayanandan is accused in various murder cases including the double murder case. Jayanandan, who was sentenced to death in the case of murdering a woman named Devaki in Puthanvelikara, was sentenced to life imprisonment after the intervention of the Supreme Court. His method is to steal jewelery after killing women with sharp weapons. He was acquitted in five of the seven cases.

Apart from Puthanvelikkara murder, Panjikaran Jose (42) of Mala Puliparam in Thrissur district, Nabisa (58) of Kalathiparam in Mala Pallipuram, daughter-in-law Fausia (22) of Kodungallur Eriyat, merchant Kalapuraykal Sahadevan (62) of Perinjanam Kutilakadu and wife Nirmala (54) of Paravur town in Ernakulam district. Jayanandan was accused in the murder of Subhasakan (53) in Nanthyattukunnam, Achancher, a retail store employee of the corporation.

Meanwhile, Ripper Jayanandan was arrested in December 2021 after more than a decade and a half of investigation in the case of killing a seventy-four-year-old woman and her relative Narayana Iyer (60) near the Ponekara Sri Krishna Temple. The murder took place on May 30, 2004. Jayanandan stole 44 gold ornaments and 15 grams of silver coins from the house where the murder took place. The police also found that the elderly woman was sexually assaulted. He shared the information about the Ponekara murder with his fellow inmates.

Meanwhile, Ripper Jayanandan was in the news for jumping out of jail twice. In 2013, he first escaped from Poojapura Central Jail. At night, he escaped by cutting the lock of the cell with an axo blade. Pillows and beds were placed in the cell in the shape of a human so that the information would not be known immediately. For maintenance, the bamboo and other timber kept in the prison premises were tied together with cloth to make a ladder and jumped over the prison wall.

Jayanandan had jumped from Kannur Central Jail 3 years before jumping from Poojapura. He was starved and thin to cross the ditches and survived that day. Even when he jumped in Kannur, he took a fellow prisoner for help.
