WEIMAR, Germany โ- Former Thuringia โคPrime Minister Thomas Kemmerich โand his son were refused service at a restaurant in Weimar on Saturday, with staff reportedly telling him,โค “You won’t be served here.” Kemmerich, 60, shared โthe incident publicly โon โPlatform X, describing it as an unwelcome experiance and โprompting him โto leave the establishment.
Kemmerich, who briefly ledโ thuringia in 2020, inquired as to the โคreason for the refusalโข and was informed it โwas simply because he was Thomas Kemmerich. He attributes the incident to the ongoing fallout from his 2020 election as Prime Minister, which relied onโ votes from the โfar-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) party – a first โขfor Germany and a moveโ widely criticized as breaking political norms.
“This happened to me more often after โthe prime ministerial election,”โ Kemmerich told the dpa news โagency. He describedโค the experience as reminiscent of a “really dark time inโ this country, in this society.”
Kemmerich,a resident of Weimar with his family, notedโ that such criticism isn’t limited to restaurants, recalling a recent similarโ encounter withโข a passerby in Berlin.โ He left โthe Free Democratic Party (FDP) earlier โthisโ year and โhas โas joined “Team freiheit,” a politicalโค group founded by former AfD leader Frauke Petry.
