Zelenskyy⁤ to Meet with UK’s Starmer, France’s‌ Macron ⁢and Germany’s Merz in london

Ukrainian ‍President Volodymyr Zelenskyy ⁢is scheduled to meet with‌ British Prime Minister rishi Sunak, French President Emmanuel Macron, and German opposition leader Friedrich Merz in London on ⁤Monday, according to reports from the Independent and Novinky.cz. The ⁣meeting⁢ will serve as a exhibition‍ of continued international support for ukraine as it ‍defends against ongoing Russian aggression.

The gathering ⁢occurs ‍amid ongoing negotiations between U.S. and Ukrainian officials seeking a framework to⁢ guarantee Ukraine’s long-term security following the ‌conclusion ‌of the war. While discussions between Zelenskyy’s advisor Yuriy Ushakov and U.S. counterparts have yielded agreement on approximately 20 points, key contentious issues remain unresolved.‍ this meeting in London underscores the concerted effort to⁣ bolster Ukraine’s position both ⁤militarily and diplomatically, even as ⁢Russia continues to launch large-scale drone ‍and ‌missile attacks.

Title: U.K. Sanctions Russia Over Nerve Agent Attack on Dawn Sturgess

by Lucas Fernandez – World Editor December 4, 2025

U.K. ⁤Imposes⁤ Sanctions on Russia Following report Linking Putin ⁣to Novichok ⁤Poisoning Deaths

LONDON – The United Kingdom announced new sanctions against Russia on Thursday, following the release of ⁤a ‌report concluding that President Vladimir ‌Putin ‍authorized the 2018 nerve⁣ agent attack on former Russian intelligence officer Sergei Skripal and his daughter, Yulia. The inquiry also resolute the attack⁢ directly⁤ led to the death of dawn Sturgess, a British woman who unknowingly came into contact with the Novichok.

The report, led by former‌ U.K. Supreme Court Justice Anthony Hughes, found the operation to assassinate Skripal “must ⁣have been authorized at the highest level, by president Putin.” Hughes⁣ further stated⁢ that all those involved ⁤in the assassination attempt were “morally responsible” for ⁢Sturgess’ death.

Skripal and his daughter were found unconscious on ‍a bench⁢ in Salisbury in March 2018,having been poisoned with the nerve agent Novichok. The inquiry revealed the poison was applied to Skripal’s front door‌ handle and brought to the U.K.by russian GRU agents. These agents “recklessly discarded” ⁢the perfume bottle used to deliver the Novichok in a public area after the attack.

Sturgess died in july 2018 after her boyfriend found‌ the bottle and gifted it to her, believing it contained perfume. She applied the substance and later became ill. “There had been no othre known instance of‍ Novichok poisoning in the U.K., nor has there been any since,” the inquest’s final report stated.

The U.K. government’s statement announcing the sanctions⁢ highlighted the⁤ GRU’s alleged involvement in “hybrid operations,” including cyber-attacks, disinformation campaigns, and the recruitment‌ of criminal proxies.⁣

“The U.K.‍ will always‌ stand up to Putin’s ‍brutal regime and⁤ call out his murderous machine for what it is,” said ⁤U.K. Prime Minister Keir Starmer. “Today’s sanctions are the latest step in our unwavering defense of European security,as we continue to squeeze Russia’s finances and strengthen Ukraine’s position at the negotiating ⁣table.”

The U.K. will⁣ continue‌ to collaborate with allies to‌ “counter Russia’s attempts to destabilize our societies,” according to the government statement.

The public is running out of patience with this Labour government

Labour Budget Backlash Deepens as Public‌ Trust⁢ Erodes

LONDON – A post-Budget ‍survey‍ reveals growing public dissatisfaction with the Labour government’s economic policies, fueled ‍by revelations of ⁢misleading statements regarding the state of public finances. The data indicates a significant preference for ‌reduced public spending over tax increases,⁣ and a widespread belief that the country is heading in the wrong direction.

The survey, conducted ⁣following the⁣ recent Budget declaration, found⁢ that 56 per cent of respondents favour less spending on public services, compared to 33 per cent who support tax hikes and spending rises. This discontent is compounded by⁢ a prevailing pessimism about the UK’s economic future, with 75 per cent believing the country is on⁤ the wrong track and 56 per cent anticipating economic deterioration in the coming year.

Critics argue the budget failed‍ to deliver concrete measures to stimulate economic growth, despite the government’s stated focus on this ⁤objective. The situation has been further inflamed by the Office for Budget Responsibility’s ⁣disclosure that it informed Shadow ⁣Chancellor Rachel Reeves of a‌ £4 billion surplus almost a month before the Budget – prior to public statements⁣ highlighting a precarious financial position. This revelation has led to accusations of political manipulation and a⁢ loss of trust,⁣ with even some ministers reportedly admitting⁤ they⁢ were misled.

The shifting political landscape may benefit the Conservatives. While Reform UK maintains a ‌lead in primary vote intention at ‌31 per cent (down four points in the ‌last two ‍months), thier momentum has slowed. The Conservative party has seen a one-point increase to 20 per cent, and⁢ Labour a two-point rise to 19‍ per cent. ‌Following⁤ her ⁤response to the Budget,Kemi Badenoch ⁣has emerged as the preferred Prime Minister, garnering 41 per cent support compared to Keir Starmer’s 32 per cent.

The initial positive reception of the Budget has quickly dissipated, leaving the Labour leadership facing increased scrutiny and a challenging political environment.

by Lucas Fernandez – World Editor December 1, 2025
written by Lucas Fernandez – World Editor

DHAKA, Bangladesh (December 4, 2023) – Former Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and British Member of Parliament Tulip Siddiq were sentenced to death Monday‌ in connection with a crackdown on student protests that ended Hasina’s 15-year rule last year. The verdict comes as Bangladesh prepares for parliamentary elections in February, currently overseen by an interim government lead by Nobel Peace prize laureate Muhammad Yunus.

The convictions stem from allegations of crimes against humanity related to the government’s response to the mass uprising.Hasina, who has lived⁢ in exile in India as⁤ being ousted, and Siddiq, who resides outside⁢ the country, were tried in absentia after choosing not to appoint defence⁢ lawyers. A separate court previously sentenced Hasina to 21 years in jail on November 27 ⁤in three related‍ cases involving a township project; her son and daughter received five-year sentences in that instance.‍

The cases center around the violent suppression of student-led ⁢demonstrations that challenged Hasina’s government.⁢ Rehana, another individual involved in the case, is also currently abroad, as are Siddiq’s two siblings, all facing charges linked to the 2022 uprising. The interim government, under Yunus, has announced the upcoming February elections, marking a pivotal moment for Bangladesh’s political future following the tumultuous events of the past year.

Title: Ukraine Allies Reject US Peace Plan, Push for Greater Guarantees

by Emma Walker – News Editor November 22, 2025

Ukraine Allies Voice Concerns Over Proposed‍ U.S. Peace Plan

GENEVA/KYIV‍ – ⁣as peace talks convene in Geneva, key European allies are signaling reservations about a potential U.S. peace plan for Ukraine, emphasizing the necessity ‍of Ukrainian involvement and adherence to it’s sovereignty. Concerns center on ensuring ⁣any agreement‍ doesn’t compromise Ukraine’s territorial integrity and reflects its own national interests, a stance ‌repeatedly underscored by European leaders at the G20 summit.

While details of the U.S. proposal remain largely undisclosed, European officials⁣ are pushing for modifications to guarantee Ukraine has a central role in negotiations ‍and that Russia demonstrates a commitment to respecting‍ previously agreed-upon boundaries. Friedrich⁢ Merz, leader of the Christian democratic Union in Germany, stated during a G20 briefing, “An end to the war can only be achieved with the unconditional consent of Ukraine,” adding he’d conveyed to former President trump the importance of European participation in any peace process, and Russia’s past failures to uphold commitments‌ regarding Ukraine’s territorial integrity.

EU Commission⁢ president Ursula von der Leyen reinforced⁣ this position, declaring a core principle for‌ Kyiv’s allies is “nothing about ⁤Ukraine without Ukraine.” French President Emmanuel Macron echoed this sentiment at the G20, stating, “there can be no peace in Ukraine without respect for ukraine’s sovereignty,” without directly ‌addressing the U.S. plan. Moscow, meanwhile, continues to seek ⁣more favorable terms in any potential agreement.

Ukraine itself is approaching the talks with resolve. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, in a video address Saturday,⁣ affirmed Ukrainian ⁤representatives “know how to protect Ukrainian ‌national interests and exactly what is needed to prevent Russia from carrying out” another invasion. He stressed that “real peace is always based on security and justice.” A nine-member Ukrainian delegation, including⁤ Chief‍ of Staff Andrii Yermak ⁣and top envoy Rustem ⁣Umerov,is empowered to negotiate directly with Russia.

The Geneva talks coincide with Ukraine’s commemoration of Holodomor Memorial Day, marking the millions who perished in the soviet-era famine of the⁣ early ‍1930s. Zelenskyy drew parallels between the past tragedy and the current conflict, stating on Telegram,”We are once again defending ourselves against Russia, which has not changed and is once again‍ bringing death.” He vowed, “We defended, defend, ⁤and will always defend Ukraine. Because only⁤ here ‌is our home. And in our home, Russia will definitely not be the master.”

Title: UK-EU Defense Deal Stalls Amid Cost Concerns

by Lucas Fernandez – World Editor November 20, 2025
written by Lucas Fernandez – World Editor

UK and EU Defence Deal Talks Stall Over Funding and Rules of Origin

Brussels – negotiations between the United Kingdom and the european Union regarding a notable defense pact have reached a standstill, primarily due ⁢to disagreements over‍ financial contributions and the sourcing of components, according to sources familiar with⁣ the discussions. The impasse threatens ⁣to limit ⁢British participation in a key EU initiative designed to bolster Europe’s defense capabilities amid‌ heightened geopolitical tensions.

The proposed agreement centers around the ‌European Defence Fund (EDF) and ⁣the security Assistance for Ukraine (SAFE) ⁢mechanism. While the UK has expressed strong interest in collaborating with the EU on ⁤defense matters – viewing it as complementary to bilateral partnerships with individual member states – substantial hurdles remain. At issue is a UK contribution to the EDF, which London believes should reflect only ⁤administrative and loan guarantee ⁤costs, ‌rather than ⁢a fee simply ‍for access. A U.K.⁣ official stated it was “not reasonable to pay the EU just for the privilege of access.”

The⁣ current rules of the SAFE program, which provides financial support for defense⁣ companies, allow⁢ components from non-member countries to constitute up to 35 percent of a product’s value.⁢ The UK is pushing for ‍this threshold to be raised to 50 percent⁤ or higher, a change that would considerably increase the participation ⁤of its robust defense industry.

The situation follows a period of warming relations between UK Prime minister rishi Sunak and European ⁤Commission President Ursula von der leyen, who exchanged positive remarks in May.Despite this diplomatic progress, the financial and technical complexities of the defense agreement are proving difficult to overcome.

The UK maintains it is indeed adopting⁤ a “pragmatic approach” and views a strong EU-UK relationship as a crucial element in strengthening European defense alongside bilateral ties ‍with member⁤ states. Though, resolving the current disagreements will be essential to unlock deeper collaboration and ensure the UK can fully contribute to the continent’s security architecture.
