Actor Boby Tince has undergone a significant life change, leaving behind his career in entertainment for a quiet life in a Bogor village, following substantial financial losses. The actor, known for roles often portraying feminine characters, experienced a setback when his travel business incurred losses of up to Rp 2 billion (approximately $128,000 USD as of February 23, 2026).
Tince’s decision is framed as both a spiritual journey and a process of healing, a “hijrah” as described in reports. He has publicly stated a firm rejection of roles requiring him to present as female, even when offered significantly higher compensation. “When there’s an offer to wear a blazer, the price is much lower. When the offer is to wear a dress, the price goes up, soars. I decline it all,” Tince explained during an appearance on the TransTV program Rumpi: No Secret on Saturday, February 21, 2026.
The financial implications of this choice are acknowledged by Tince, who recognizes the substantial difference in earnings between roles that align with his current principles and those that do not. However, he views this as a test of faith and a demonstration of divine intervention. “Maybe What we have is God’s way of saying, ‘Just stay true to your principles, be yourself, and be content with what you have,’” he said.
Beyond rejecting certain roles, Tince has embraced a simpler lifestyle centered around gardening and farming, skills he learned from his mother. He cultivates a variety of fruits and vegetables, including durian, mangosteen, and papaya, on his property. Rather than selling his produce, Tince distributes it to neighbors, family, and as charitable donations. “If I sold it, everyone has a garden anyway, who would buy it? So we use it for our daily needs. If we have guests, we give it as alms, share it with neighbors and distant relatives,” he stated.
Tince has similarly been granted access to a 2,000 square meter plot of land by a neighbor, which he is using to expand his activities. He has established a small dimsum stall on the property, offering views of the city. The actor’s shift comes after losing luxury vehicles, including an Alphard and a Rubicon, but he appears resolute in his new path.
