Oklahoma’s Firstโ Perinatal Behavioral Health Clinic Opens, Offering Crucial Support for New โMothers
Mercy Hospital in Oklahoma has launched a vital โnew resource for expectant and new mothers: the state’s first โคperinatal behavioral health clinic.โ The clinic aims to address the important need for โคmental health support during and afterโข pregnancy, providing essential careโ to both โmothers and babies.
According toโ Kalee Woody, a general psychiatrist โขat the clinic, untreatedโฃ mental health conditions during pregnancy pose a serious โขrisk to both mother and child.โ Postpartum depression, โanxiety, and trauma are common challenges, and the clinic โฃoffers a safe and โsupportive habitatโค for mothers navigating these โคdifficulties.
“That’s a really vulnerable time for mental health,” Woody explained. “Moms often feel guilty and put immense pressure on themselves, making it hard to askโฃ for help.”
The clinic, officially opened on Monday, focuses on providing individualized care.Staff will answer questions, addressโค concerns, and developโ tailoredโฃ treatment plans to โbest support both the mother and โคher baby.
“We are letting everyone know we’re here and available for moms experiencing their first mental health crisis or ongoing problems,”โ Woody stated.
The clinicโ is currently accepting patients and is poised to fill a critical gap in Oklahoma’s maternal care system, offering much-needed resources and supportโค to families across the โstate.
