Cubs Outfielder Kyle Tucker Could Command $400 Million Contract, Says โMLB Insider
Chicago Cubs outfielder Kyle Tucker is projected to be a top free agent this offseason and could land a โฃcontract worth up to $400 million, accordingโฃ to MLBโค Network insider Jon Heyman. The prediction, made during a Tuesday episode โคof MLBโข Central, positions Tucker among a select groupโค of players to have secured โdeals exceeding $400 million.Currently, only four MLBโข players have reached that milestone: Juan Soto (15 years, $765 million with โคthe New โคyork Mets), Shohei Ohtani (10 years, $700 million with the Los angeles Dodgers),โฃ Vladimir Guerrero Jr.(14 years, $500 million โคwith the Toronto Blue โJays), and Mike Trout (12 years, $426.5 million with the Los Angeles Angels).
Heyman noted Tuckerโค overcameโข an injury earlier this season, finishing his first year with the Cubs hitting .270 with 22 home runs, 73 RBIs, 89 runs scored, and 25 stolen bases through 133 games. He also highlighted Tucker’s consistent performance, citing hisโฃ .853 OPS.
While Heyman doesn’t anticipate Tucker โฃreachingโ the $500 million mark, he believes Guerreroโฃ Jr.’s extension will be a key comparison point during negotiations. “I don’tโฃ thinkโ he’s going to get โto $500 million, but I think $400 million might be realistic,”โ Heyman said. He also stated that despite Kyle Schwarber having a โstatistically better year, Tucker, being in his 20s,โ is โthe top free agent available.
