Netflix Expands โSoutheast Asia Investment with Strategic JAFFโค Partnership
JAKARTA, INDONESIA – Netflix is bolstering itsโ commitment to southeast Asian cinema throughโ aโค newโ partnership with the โขJakarta Asian Film festival (JAFF), building on the momentum of its inaugural Creative Asia โขlaunch at the Busan Internationalโฃ Film โขFestival (BIFF) โin 2024.โฃ The collaboration underscores a shared vision among netflix, BIFF, and JAFF to cultivate and showcase Asian storytelling.

Atโค JAFF, Netflix highlighted its ongoing โinitiatives to โคsupport regional talent,โ including the second season of Reel Life Film Camp. The program, funded by the Netflix Fund for Creative Equity, hasโ received over 800 applications across two seasons and trained โขnearly 100 participants in areas like production, post-production, visualโ effects,โ editing, and screenwriting. Additional โฃtraining opportunities โincluded a unit still photography workshop โฃandโข a second season of the โScreenwriters Fellowship in collaboration โขwithโ Soda Machine Films.
The streamer also offered a preview of its upcoming Southeast asian content โpipeline, featuringโ behind-the-scenes footage โฃfrom the remake of Thailand’s period drama “Ploeng Phra Nang.”โฃ Matti, creator of “BuyBust,” confirmed that his Filipino series “BuyBust: The Undesirables” will debut on โคNetflix next year.
A significant announcement includedโ a partnership with Indonesian author Dee Lestari to adapt her best-selling โคnovels – “Rapi Jali,” “Aroma Karsa,” and “Perahu Kertas” โ- into original series. Sabrina Rochelle will direct “Rapi Jali,” while Kamila Andini will helm โฃ”Aroma โKarsa.”
JAFF โคalso hosted the world โpremiere of “Lupa โDaratan”โค (Lost in the Spotlight), โฃan Indonesian comedy by Ernest โคPrakasa.
Netflix reported that over 100 Southeast โคAsian titlesโข have ranked โinโค its Global Top 10 to date, appearing in the Top 10 lists of over 80 countries โthis year, including “The Elixir,” โขwhich โขrecently held the No. 1 spot โฃamong non-English โขfilms globally for two consecutive weeks and reached the Top โ10 in 75 countries. The festival also โคfeatured aโข creator conversation between anwar (“Nightmaresโ and Daydreams”)โฃ and Mattiโฃ (“BuyBust”) and a panel on Southeast Asia’s emerging zombie genre featuring kaljareuk (“Ziam”), Ledesma (“Outside”) and Stamboel โ(“Theโ Elixir”).
