Radio Nova Beats FM104 for Dublin Breakfast Show Top Spot | The Journal

Radio Nova’s “Morning Glory” breakfast show, hosted by PJ Gallagher and Jim McCabe, has overtaken FM104’s “Strawberry Alarm Clock” as the most listened-to morning program in Dublin, according to the latest figures from the Joint National Listenership Research (JNLR).

The shift marks the first time in decades that FM104 has relinquished its long-held dominance in the Dublin breakfast radio market. Radio Nova announced the news on its website, celebrating the achievement as a win for the station and its presenters. The JNLR data, released this week, shows “Morning Glory” now commands the largest audience share for breakfast radio in the capital.

FM104, a station known for its music and local content, continues to be a significant player in the Dublin radio landscape. The station’s website currently promotes its “Strawberry Alarm Clock” and “104 Drive” programs, alongside podcasts and live Premier League coverage. FM104 recently launched the “Onic Player” app, aiming to consolidate its digital listening platform and offer exclusive content.

The latest JNLR results also indicate that Radio Nova is now the leading music radio station in Dublin overall. RTÉ maintains a strong presence nationally, securing the top 18 positions in the most-listened-to programmes and holding all ten spots in the top ten.

While FM104 continues to offer a range of programming, including news, sports and lifestyle content, and has recently added podcasts like “Are We There Yet?” with Kathryn Thomas, the change at the top of the breakfast show rankings signals a notable shift in listener preferences. FM104 is also promoting a competition to win a €50 One4All voucher.

Neither Radio Nova nor FM104 have issued detailed statements regarding the specific strategies that led to the change in rankings, or future programming adjustments. The next JNLR figures, which will provide a further indication of listening trends, are scheduled for release later this year.
