Makassar –
The police arrested Andi Gugun alias Akmal (23, previously mentioned 26 years), the commuter driver who killed Jessica Sollu alias Chika in Luwu East Regency. It was revealed that the perpetrator raped Jessica before killing the victim.
“The perpetrator made the victim,” South Sulawesi Police Chief Inspector Yudhiawan Wibisono told journalists at the South Sulawesi Police Headquarters, Thursday (20/11/2024).
Yudhiawan said that Jessica, the only passenger in the passenger car, sat in the front seat while on the way to Morowali, Central Sulawesi. During the visit, directly in the area of โโMangkutana District, East Luwu, on Tuesday (12/11) at about 01.30 WITA, the intention of the perpetrator arose to have sexual relations with the victim.
“The perpetrator saw that the victim was asleep so that part of the victim’s stomach could be seen, the perpetrator was interested in seeing the victim, and invited the victim to have sex,” said Yudhiawan.

The person who committed the crime himself had a reward of 200 thousand Rp. However, the victim strongly refused the perpetrator’s invitation and persuasion.
“The victim refused (but) on the way the perpetrator was still thinking about how to have sex with the victim,” he said.
30 minutes later, the perpetrator stopped his vehicle when he entered the area of โโMount Kayulangi, Mangkutana, East Luwu, because he wanted to urinate. However, the perpetrator squeezed his thigh, dragged his neck and covered the victim’s mouth until he was weak and helpless.
“The perpetrator then raped the victim,” he said.
After raping the victim, the perpetrator returned to the driver’s seat. The victim, who was semi-conscious at the time, threatened to report the perpetrator to the police.
“Then the victim got out of the car and sat on the asphalt. The perpetrator approached the victim and immediately strangled the victim so that the perpetrator could not suffer to breathe,” he said.
It is known that the victim Jessica Sollu was traveling to her place of work in Morowali on Monday night (11/11). The body of the victim was found by workers on the Trans Sulawesi Pongcancalili Road, Sampuraga Hamlet, Kasintuwu Village, Mangkutana District, on Wednesday (13/11) at around 07.00 WITA.

Great to have you both here today for this interview. Let’s start off by discussing the recentโค news surrounding the tragic deathโฃ of Jessica Sollu. From the โคarticle, it has been stated that Jessica was traveling to Morowaliโ when she was raped and โขkilled by her commuter driver, Andi Gugun. Can you both share your views on this horrific event and what โขyou think can be done toโฃ prevent โsuch incidents from happening in the future?
Guest 1: It’s unfortunate that โฃsuch incidents still happen in โourโ society, especiallyโค against theโ most vulnerable members of our community. As a community, we must โdo more โto protect and advocate for women’s safety, โespecially when using public transportation. Regulations should โbe โฃput in place to โขensure better background checks on drivers and passengers alike. This event is a stark reminder of the need for increased vigilance and to reportโค any suspicious behavior during travel.
Guestโ 2: I completely agree with you, Guest 1. โIt’s heartbreaking to hear about these events and it’s crucial that we continue to raise awareness on the โissues women face regarding their safety. The authoritiesโ should also strictly enforce existing โlaws to ensure the safetyโ of โwomen and girls. It’s essential that communities come together andโข work to maintain an environment where women can travel without fear.
Moving on to the theme of public transportation safety, how confident are you both when using public transport? What measures do youโ feel should be taken to increase safetyโฃ and security for passengers, especially women?
Guest 1: I feelโ that public transportation could be safer with the installation of more cameras andโฃ additional security personnel. The drivers should also receive โbetter training on how to handle potentially dangerous situations. โขIt would also be helpful if passengers were educated on self-defense techniques or given some form of device for โemergencies.
Guest 2: Iโ feel that the police should increase their presence in public transportation, particularly during late-night hours โwhen it can feel more dangerous. Additionally, passengers should always be encouraged โคto report suspicious behavior to โthe driver or police to ensure immediate action. There should also be a clear code of conduct for all passengers to promote respectful โand safe interactions.
Switching gears, what do you โคbothโค think about the role of technology in ensuring the safety ofโค commuters,
