Jakarta, Indonesia – Margaret Aliyatul Maimunah, the Chair of Indonesia’s Commission for the Protection of Indonesian Children (KPAI), died Sunday morning at Fatmawati Hospital in Jakarta, officials confirmed.
Kawiyan, a KPAI Commissioner, stated that Aliyatul Maimunah passed away at 8:00 AM local time. “It is true, our leader, Ibu Margaret Aliyatul Maimunah, passed away at 8:00 AM at Fatmawati Hospital,” Kawiyan said, adding that she was a “remarkably wise and accommodating leader with an extraordinary vision for child protection.”
Aliyatul Maimunah had been previously hospitalized at Fatmawati Hospital before the anticipated start of Ramadan, according to Kawiyan.
Following confirmation of her death, a prayer service was held at the headquarters of Nahdlatul Ulama (PBNU) in Jakarta. Aliyatul Maimunah similarly served as the Chairwoman of the PP Fatayat NU, the women’s wing of the Nahdlatul Ulama, Indonesia’s largest Islamic organization.
Her remains will be transported to her hometown of Lumajang, East Java, for burial. Kawiyan stated they would accompany the body by land.
KPAI’s official Instagram account posted a statement Sunday morning, describing Aliyatul Maimunah as “a leader, mother, and role model who meant so much to us at the Indonesian Child Protection Commission.”
According to reports, Aliyatul Maimunah passed away at 8:25 AM local time, as confirmed by the KPAI’s Instagram account.
