Diplomat Found Dead in Jogja Boarding House; Police to Investigate Use of Ministry of Foreign Affairs Duct Tape
Jakarta – Authorities are investigating the death of a young diplomat from the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Kemlu), identified as ADP, 39, whose body was discovered in a boarding house in Jogja. The police plan to confiscate a distinctive yellow duct tape found on the victim, which is reportedly used by Kemlu officials for luggage identification during international travel.The duct tape’s purpose, as explained by Ade Ary, is to make it easier for Kemlu staff to locate their belongings at airports due to its striking color. This detail emerged as investigators delve into the circumstances surrounding ADP’s death.
The victim was last seen on the rooftop of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs building on Monday night, July 7th, for approximately 1 hour and 26 minutes. During this time, ADP left behind a carrying bag and a shopping bag. His body was discovered the following morning, Tuesday, July 8th, at 8:30 AM WIB, by a boarding guard. The victim was found with his face covered in plastic and wrapped with the aforementioned yellow duct tape.
Polda Metro jaya has pledged a thorough, science-based criminal investigation into the diplomat’s death.
Contents of Diplomat’s Bag Revealed
In the days leading up to his finding,ADP had visited the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and left his bag. The contents of this bag, found on the 12th floor near an emergency stairwell, have now been detailed by the police.While no mobile phone was found in the bag, it contained a laptop, newly purchased clothing, medications, recent purchases, several memorandums, and various office equipment. Among the items was an outpatient record from a Jakarta hospital, dated with a record extending to June 2025.
The investigation into ADP’s death is ongoing, with a focus on understanding the role of the duct tape and the events leading up to his tragic discovery.
