Ivรกn Fischer too receiveโ Prestigious Concertgebouw prize inโ 2026
Amsterdam, Netherlands – Hungarian conductor and composer Ivรกn Fischer willโข be awarded the Concertgebouw Prize in 2026, the Amsterdamโ concert hall announced today. The prize โฃrecognizes Fischer’s exceptional and sustained contribution to the artistic โidentity of the Concertgebouw, where he has performed over 150 times since โค1987 โฃand โคis โscheduled forโค eight moreโข concerts this season.
Fischer, 74, is celebrated forโค his innovative approach to classical music,โ frequently challenging conventional concertโค formats.he has โinvited audiences to โsit withinโ the orchestra, staged theatrical โคperformances, and created accessibleโค programs like ‘chocolate concerts’ for children โฃand Midnight Music for young adults. โ “Ivรกn Fischer is a born artist. Averseโ to routine. Everything he โฃtouches changes into somthing new, as if it sounds for โคthe first time. And always with โa nice sense of humor.โค A concert with Ivรกn is more than a concert,โ it is a total experience,” said Simon Reinink, Director of Het Concertgebouw.
A versatile musician,fischer studied piano,violin,cello,and composition inโ Budapest,and orchestral conducting in vienna. He founded bothโ the Budapest โคFestival Orchestra โฃin 1983โข and the Ivรกn Fischer Opera company, โalongside numerous festivals. His repertoire focuses on โcomposers โincluding Bach, โMozart, Brahms, Mahler,โ and Bartรณk.
The Concertgebouw Orchestra appointed Fischer as honorary guest conductor in 2020, acknowledging his long-standing dedication. He joins a distinguished list of โคpast recipients including Cecilia Bartoli (2004), Bernard Haitink (2007), Janine Jansen (2013), Wynton Marsalis (2021), and Joyceโ DiDonato (2024).The prize will be presented on March 16, 2026, and consists of a commissioned work of art and inclusion on the hall’s tableau ofโ honor. Fischer, โคwho speaks Dutch and โonce โคresided in Amsterdam, โขis also the father of former โฃsinger Nora Fischer.
