The resignation comes afterโฃ former U.S.Ambassador tooโ Mexico, โChristopher Landau, publicly condemned Ramรญrez’sโค statements as “unfortunate” โandโ indicativeโ of aโข troublingโ level of โฃdiscourse.
Ramรญrez made theโค remarks during a televised debate, referencing the shooting of Kirk, who was wounded in the neck atโ an event atโ the University of Utah. He noted Kirk’s advocacy for the use โฃof firearms, stating, “Thay โฃgave โขaโ spoonful of their โฃown chocolate, they gave someone who promoted โขtheโฃ use of weaponsโฆ”
Landau responded on X (formerly โTwitter), expressing his dismay and stating, “I am ashamed to have interacted withโ you duringโข my management as the United States ambassador toโ Mexico.” He had previously criticized social media users forโฃ “glorifying โviolence” following the attack.
