UK Police Block Palestine Protest Amid Manchester Attack Concerns

by Emma Walker – News Editor October 3, 2025

UK Police Urge⁣ Cancellation of Protest Following Manchester⁢ Attack, ⁢Sparking Debate⁤ Over Demonstrations and Community ‌Grief

Following a deadly incident ‍in Manchester where a man, ⁢identified as the perpetrator of car ramming and stabbing attacks near a synagogue, was shot dead ⁢by police, UK authorities are urging the cancellation of a planned protest.⁤ The attacks resulted in the deaths of two individuals‍ from the Jewish community.

Greater Manchester Police Chief Stephen Watson⁣ revealed‌ on Friday that a preliminary ⁤forensic examination suggests one of the victims⁤ may ‍have died from a gunshot wound, with police being the only source of gunfire in the incident.

The Metropolitan Police issued⁢ a statement requesting that the protest, organized by the group Defend Our Juries,be⁤ called off. This call echoes similar sentiments expressed by Home secretary⁤ Shabana Mahmood, who advocated for a period of quiet reflection for⁤ the⁣ Jewish community to⁢ grieve.Mahmood expressed disappointment that organizers⁣ had not heeded the request to postpone the presentation and urged solidarity with the families of ⁤the ‍victims and ⁣the wider Jewish community. She also condemned protests⁢ held the previous night as “fundamentally un-British” and “dishonourable.”

Thursday’s protest outside ‍Downing Street led to ⁤40 arrests, including ‍six individuals accused of assaulting police‌ officers.

The incident has ignited a debate⁢ regarding demonstrations ⁣and their potential impact. Chief Rabbi Sir Ephraim Mirvis voiced concerns over the continuation of marches supporting Palestine Action, ⁢alleging⁤ some contain antisemitic rhetoric and support for hamas, and directly linking ⁤these demonstrations to‍ the ⁣manchester attack.

However, the article notes that hundreds of thousands of people, including many Jews, have⁢ participated in peaceful weekly protests against‌ Israel’s⁣ actions⁣ in Gaza over⁤ the past two years, with no evidence of violent intent or support for Hamas. These protests have ⁣occured amidst a conflict that has resulted in over 66,000 deaths ‍and 168,346 injuries in Gaza due to israeli bombardment and⁣ a ground invasion.

In August, over 300 British Jewish figures, including Jenny Manson of Jewish Voice for Labour, signed⁢ a letter protesting the government’s decision‍ to ‍proscribe Palestine Action as a terrorist⁢ institution. The‍ letter also called for government action regarding israel’s conduct in Gaza and the West‌ Bank. These largely peaceful rallies have been met with a critically important ‌police presence and numerous arrests.

Trump Guarantees Qatar Security After Israel Attack

by David Harrison – Chief Editor October 2, 2025
written by David Harrison – Chief Editor

US Bolsters Security Commitment to ‌Qatar Following Deadly Israeli Strike

In response to a recent Israeli airstrike in Doha and ongoing regional tensions, President Donald Trump has issued ‌an executive order affirming a strong security commitment ⁢to Qatar. The⁤ order pledges US support, including potential retaliatory military action, ⁢should‌ Qatar face future attacks.

The move follows an unprecedented Israeli operation on September 9th⁣ targeting Hamas ⁣leaders reportedly meeting in the Qatari capital to discuss a US-backed ceasefire proposal for Gaza. The strike, which ⁤Qatar condemned as⁢ “fainthearted and treacherous,” resulted in the⁣ deaths of several Hamas operatives‌ and a Qatari security⁤ officer. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin‌ Netanyahu formally apologized to Qatar for ⁣the loss of Qatari life‌ during a joint call with President Trump and Qatari Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin jassim Al Thani‍ at the White House.

The executive ⁣order explicitly recognizes the “close ⁣cooperation, shared interests, and the close relationship between our armed forces”‌ that bind the US and Qatar.⁣ President Trump⁣ lauded Qatar as “a steadfast ally in ⁤pursuit of peace, stability and⁢ prosperity,” highlighting its crucial ‌role in mediating numerous regional ⁤and global conflicts.

The order states that the US will ‍consider any armed attack on Qatar’s territory, sovereignty, or critical infrastructure as a⁤ direct threat to⁣ US peace and security.

The declaration comes after a period of diplomatic maneuvering by the US, seeking to mend relations with Qatar while concurrently reaffirming its support for Israel. Secretary of State Marco Rubio visited Doha on September⁢ 16th,emphasizing the “enduring⁤ US-Qatar security partnership” following an emergency summit in Doha where Arab and Islamic leaders voiced solidarity with Qatar.

While the full extent ‌of the US commitment remains subject to interpretation – as executive orders ⁢don’t carry the same legal weight as Senate-approved treaties – the move signals a ‍meaningful ⁢escalation in US security guarantees to the Gulf nation.Qatar hosts the vital Al Udeid Air Base, a key forward operating base for US Central⁤ Command, and was designated a major⁢ non-NATO ally by former President Joe biden in 2022,⁤ largely due to its assistance during the Afghanistan withdrawal.

Analysts like Bader al-Saif, a history professor at Kuwait university, argue that the Gulf region’s strategic importance necessitates concrete US⁣ guarantees‍ beyond verbal assurances, solidifying Qatar’s position as a key partner in a volatile Middle East.

Gaza Aid Flotilla: Israel’s Legal Challenges and International Waters

Gaza Sumud Flotilla: Allegations of Israeli‍ violations of International‌ Maritime Law

Recent ‌confrontations⁤ surrounding the Gaza Sumud Flotilla have intensified scrutiny ‍of Israel’s actions⁤ in international waters and sparked concerns over potential ⁢breaches of international⁤ law, severely straining Israel-Turkiye relations. The flotilla missions aim to deliver humanitarian ⁣aid⁣ to Gaza amidst ongoing‍ conflict.

[Image of map showing flotilla interception locations – as provided in original text]
(Al jazeera)

In 2024, UN experts asserted that “The Freedom Flotilla has the right of‍ free passage in⁤ international waters, and Israel must not interfere with its ⁢freedom of navigation, long recognised under international law.” The Sumud Flotilla specifically navigated⁣ through international ⁣waters and into Palestinian territorial waters, where proponents ‍maintain a legal ⁤right to deliver humanitarian assistance.

Stephen Cotton, General Secretary ‍of the International Transport Workers’ Federation (ITF), representing over 16.5 million transport workers globally, stated unequivocally:⁢ “The law of the sea is‍ clear: attacking or seizing non-violent, humanitarian vessels in international waters is illegal and unacceptable.” He further warned, “Such actions⁢ endanger lives and undermine the basic principles that keep the seas safe for all. This‍ is‍ not only about seafarers,it’s about‌ the ⁤safety of⁤ everyone at sea, whether on a commercial ship,a⁢ humanitarian vessel,or⁣ a‍ fishing boat. States cannot pick and choose when ⁣to respect international ⁣law. The ⁣seas ⁤must ‌not be turned into a theater of war.” Cotton shared these comments with Al Jazeera.

The⁤ Freedom Flotilla Coalition argues that their ⁣mission is not only⁤ lawful but also protected ⁣by a thorough framework of ⁣international legal instruments,⁤ including:

[Image of list of international laws – as provided in original text]

* The⁤ United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) – Guarantees freedom of navigation on the high seas.
* ⁣ San ‍Remo Manual on International Law Applicable to Armed Conflicts at⁢ Sea - ⁢prohibits blockades that cause starvation or disproportionate suffering and forbids the targeting of neutral ‌humanitarian⁣ missions.
* UN ‌Security Council ‍Resolutions 2720 and 2728 - These ⁢binding instruments demand unimpeded⁤ humanitarian access and the removal ‍of all barriers to aid delivery.
* Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide – Includes the⁣ prevention of acts deliberately endangering civilians.
* Fourth Geneva Convention ⁢- Imposes⁤ an⁢ obligation to permit the free passage of humanitarian aid‌ and prohibit interference⁤ with relief operations and ⁤the ⁢targeting ⁢of civilian infrastructure.
* Rome Statute⁢ of ⁢the International Criminal Court ‍ – Criminalises the starvation of civilians as a method of warfare‌ and willful⁢ obstruction of humanitarian aid.

Israel Cycling Team Exclusion Sparks Giro dell’Emilia Controversy

by Alex Carter - Sports Editor September 28, 2025
written by Alex Carter - Sports Editor

Italian Cycling Race Organizers⁤ Bar Israeli Team Amid ‌Pro-Palestinian Protest Concerns

Organizers of the Giro dell’Emilia,⁤ a one-day cycling race‍ scheduled for October 4th in Bologna,‌ Italy, have decided to exclude ‌the Israel-Premier Tech cycling team due to security concerns‍ stemming from pro-Palestinian protests. The decision, announced on Saturday, follows disruptions to the recent Vuelta a ⁢Espana cycling race in Madrid, where ⁤protesters blocked the Israeli ⁤team’s participation, ultimately leading to the cancellation of the race’s final stage.

Adriano Amici, the race organizer, stated the decision‌ was made “with regret” but necessary “for the safety of all athletes, technical staff, and spectators.” He explained the race’s final circuit, completed five times, presented a ⁣”very high” ‍risk of disruption. “We had to make this decision⁣ for reasons ⁢of public⁣ security,” Amici told Reuters.

The move comes as calls for Israel’s exclusion from global sporting events, festivals, and music competitions have increased since the ‍start of its military⁣ operation‌ in Gaza, ⁢which has ‌resulted in approximately 66,000 Palestinian deaths, a situation the United Nations has described⁤ as a ‍”genocide.”

Bologna’s local government, led by the center-left⁢ Democratic Party,‌ had previously called for ⁣the⁣ Israel-Premier Tech team’s exclusion, citing the Israeli government’s “serious crimes against the civilian population in ⁢the gaza ⁤Strip.” Roberta‌ Li Calzi, the city’s sport councillor, welcomed the decision, stating it would have been “hypocritical” to ‌allow ⁤a team‌ “linked to this [Israeli] government” to participate given the ongoing conflict.

The Israel-Premier Tech team is owned by Israeli-Canadian ‍property developer sylvan‍ Adams, who is described by the World Jewish Congress, of which he is the president for the Israel region, as “committed to promoting Israel’s global image.”

The decision to exclude the team follows recent clashes between police and pro-Palestinian protesters in Milan ‍during a ‌nationwide strike in Italy protesting‍ against Israel’s actions in Gaza.

Further pressure is mounting on Israel internationally. UEFA, European football’s governing body, ‌is expected ‍to vote soon on possibly suspending Israel’s football team from all⁢ competitions. A majority within ‌the 20-member UEFA ruling committee is anticipated⁢ to support excluding israel ⁤from ⁣games. Additionally, members of⁣ the Eurovision Song Contest are scheduled to vote in ⁢November on whether to exclude Israel from the 2026 ⁣competition.

Netanyahu Defiant at UN: Israel’s Gaza War, Genocide Denial, and Ultimatum to Hamas

by Lucas Fernandez – World Editor September 26, 2025
written by Lucas Fernandez – World Editor

Netanyahu defends Gaza Campaign, Issues Ultimatum to Hamas at UN General Assembly

UNITED NATIONS – September 26, 2025 ⁤ – Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu delivered a defiant address ‌to⁤ the United Nations General Assembly today, defending his country’s nearly two-year military campaign in Gaza and issuing a stark ultimatum to Hamas: lay down⁤ weapons and release Israeli captives,⁤ or⁤ face destruction. The speech, punctuated by walkouts from several delegations, came amidst ⁤growing international criticism⁤ and an⁢ International Criminal Court warrant for Netanyahu’s arrest over alleged war crimes.

Netanyahu directly addressed the Israeli hostages ‌held⁤ in Gaza, stating, “We have not forgotten you, not even ‍for a second. The people of Israel are ⁤with you. ‍We will not falter, and we will not⁣ rest until we bring all of you home.” He claimed the speech was being broadcast directly to cellphones within gaza, including those of Hamas leadership.

the Prime Minister issued a direct threat, stating that Hamas should release the⁤ captives and surrender, “or they would die.”

Netanyahu repeatedly justified the ongoing war by referencing the October 2023 ⁢attack, and‍ outlined what he‍ described as a “seven-front war”⁤ israel has waged against ⁢regional adversaries, displaying a map titled “The Curse” identifying Gaza, ⁢Yemen,⁢ Iran, Syria, Lebanon, ‌and Iraqi militia as enemies. He notably praised ‌the united States‍ as Israel’s “staunchest defender” and main military backer, while criticizing⁣ other western allies, claiming they ‌privately acknowledge ‌Israel is “fighting your fight” against terror.‌ Members of ‌the⁢ US delegation were observed‍ applauding throughout the speech.

Facing accusations of prolonging⁤ the war ⁢for political ‌gain, and with critics alleging his⁢ actions impede the release of captives, Netanyahu vehemently denied accusations of genocide in Gaza, despite findings from a UN inquiry and a growing number of experts. He argued that Israel would not order evacuations if intending to commit genocide.

He also refuted claims of ⁤deliberately starving the population⁣ of Gaza, where famine has been⁤ declared, instead blaming hamas for stealing ⁤and reselling aid to finance the conflict. This⁢ claim was ⁢challenged by ⁤a late june USAID‌ report which concluded ther was no evidence of systematic looting of⁤ US-provided aid by Hamas.

The⁢ speech drew immediate criticism. Israeli opposition leader Yair Lapid described the address as “a tired and whining” performance filled with “tired gimmicks,” and faulted Netanyahu for failing to present a plan for ⁤securing the release of the Israeli hostages.⁢ Gaza’s government condemned the ⁤speech ⁣as⁣ containing “eight major ⁣lies” intended to justify what‌ they called war crimes and genocide.

Israeli Military Strikes Kill Dozens in Gaza as Offensive Escalates

by Lucas Fernandez – World Editor September 25, 2025

Israeli Strikes Kill At Least 30 Palestinians in Gaza as Offensive ⁣Intensifies

GAZA CITY – At least 30 Palestinians, including children, ⁣have been killed in Israeli military strikes across central adn southern Gaza since dawn, according to reports from the territory ⁤and civil defense officials. The⁤ escalating violence comes as⁤ Israel intensifies its offensive against Gaza, forcing hundreds of thousands to evacuate their homes⁢ and pushing parts⁣ of the territory into famine.

One of Thursday’s strikes on central‍ Gaza resulted in the deaths of at least 11 people, according to Mahmoud⁤ Basal, spokesperson for Gaza’s civil defense. “Eleven people were killed and many are missing or wounded after an Israeli air strike targeted a house … which was ⁤sheltering displaced people⁣ north of az-Zawayda ⁣in the central Gaza Strip,” Basal said. Emergency ‌services confirmed several children were⁣ among the dead, ‍with‌ bodies transported to a nearby hospital.

The ⁣increased bombardment is⁣ focused on Gaza City, as⁢ Israel expands ⁢its campaign to capture the Strip’s largest urban center. Displaced residents face ⁤severe challenges finding shelter and ⁤are encountering inflated prices‍ for‌ temporary accommodation.

“We have arrived in this remote area with no tents, no‍ facilities. We⁤ cannot get⁢ water supplies. Kids cannot find anything to eat as we are ⁣far from⁢ everyone else,” said Ahlam Aqel, a displaced woman from Gaza City.

Ahmed Salama, forcibly displaced from northern Gaza, expressed similar concerns. “We are going to central Gaza and we do not know where we are going to stay. The al-Mawasi evacuation zone‍ is overcrowded with displaced people. there is no single space ‌for anyone to move there.”

Gaza has suffered widespread destruction, and ‌a United Nations-backed organization declared famine in parts of the territory‍ last month. Najia Abu Amsha,a Palestinian whose nephew‍ was killed while waiting for aid, stated on Wednesday,”We⁣ lost our children, our homes and our places. We became beggars and sick.”

As the start of Israel’s war on Gaza in October 2023, at least‍ 65,419 people ‍have been killed and‍ 167,160 wounded, with thousands more believed⁤ to be trapped under rubble.
