Browns Linebacker Carson Schwesinger foregoes Bye Week to Focus on Injury Recovery
CLEVELAND,OH – November 7,2025 – Cleveland Browns rookieโ linebacker โขCarson Schwesinger is using the team’s bye week โto rehabilitate an undisclosed injury, opting to remain in โคCleveland rather than join teammatesโ on theirโ time โoff. The decision underscores Schwesinger’s commitment to returning to the field at full strength.
Schwesinger, selected 33rd overall in the second roundโข of the draft, had โbeen playing at a Defensive Rookie of the Year caliber before the โinjury. He currently leads the Browns withโข 60 tackles,โ ranking third among all NFLโฃ rookies. He โis the only rookie this season to achieve at least 15 tackles, one sack, andโ one interception.
The linebacker’s impact extends beyond statistics; he has quickly become a defensive leader, earning the responsibility of wearing โthe “green dot” โฃ- the helmet communication device for receiving play calls.
“It’s โfootball,” Schwesinger said. “There’sโ nothing besides it’s just football. I mean, that’s what’s going to happen when you’re playing.”
The Browns haveโ depth at linebacker with veterans โDevin Bush Jr. (57 tackles) andโฃ Jerome Baker Jr., as wellโ as โthird-year pro Mohamoud โDiabate and rookie Eastonโฃ Mascarenas-Arnold. Defensive Coordinator Jim โSchwartzโค expressed confidence in the team’s options and Schwesinger’s eventual return.
“We have a lot of different ways that we can go with it and, you know, we’ll practice that way and just see where it lands,” Schwartz said. “But, yeah, โCarson means a โคlot to us, not just from โhis play – but also his communication and, you know, things likeโ that. And I โฃthink he’s also โstepping in with โขsome leadership things. โขโฆโฃ we’ll get him back on the โขfield. Whetherโฃ it’s this week,โข next week after, whatever it โis indeed,โ I think you’ll continue to โsee a lot of those same positives from him.”
This marks Schwesinger’s โfirst meaningfulโ injury โduring his football career, having โpreviously avoided such setbacks at UCLA. He emphasized the importance โขof a careful recovery process.
“Oh, definitely,”โข Schwesinger said. “I think there’s no โtime when you want to step on the fieldโ when you โcan’t go and be out there to help the team. So โฃthere’s never a โpoint to push it if โขI’m โคnot going to beโฃ at my best.”
