Iranian Foreign Ministry Investigating Visa Cancellations with Saudi Arabia and Other Countries

Dubai, United Arab Emirates (CNN) – Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman, Nasser Kanaani, announced on Monday that canceling visas with some countries, including Saudi Arabia, is a “subject under investigation” by the ministry.

Kanaani said, in a press conference, “There are several plans and ideas being discussed with the relevant institutions, and it is necessary and natural to send the expert and the final summary to the Council of Ministers after studying all the political and security aspects, in accordance with the law of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs,” according to the Iranian News Agency (IRNA). .

Saudi Arabia and Iran reached an agreement on March 10, 2023, sponsored by China, stipulating the return of diplomatic relations between the two countries and the reopening of the two embassies.

Regarding relations with Egypt, he stated that there have been “positive developments recently, after the talks between the two countries and the meeting of the foreign ministers of the two countries in New York.”

He added, “These talks will continue with the joint political will that has been formed,” stressing that Iran is “serious about developing relations with regional and Islamic countries, and will respond to every positive step with a positive step.”

According to the agency, the spokesman expressed his “hope to create a new atmosphere and positive steps between Iran and Egypt.”

It is noteworthy that the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced, last month, that Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry met with his Iranian counterpart, Hossein Amir Abdollahian, at the headquarters of Egypt’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations in New York.

The ministry spokesman said, via the “X” platform: “The foreign ministers of Egypt and Iran are now meeting at the headquarters of the Permanent Mission of Egypt to the United Nations,” and published pictures of the meeting.

Iranian President Ibrahim Raisi described the meeting as “it could be a step to start developing relations” between Tehran and Cairo.

Relations between Cairo and Tehran deteriorated after the “Islamic Revolution” in Iran, and witnessed a noticeable improvement during the era of the late Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi, but the development of relations did not last long with the removal of Morsi and the “Muslim Brotherhood” from power, as relations returned to a state of stagnation again.

The Controversy Surrounding the Naming of the Persian Gulf: Analysis of the Iranian-Saudi Press Conference in Riyadh

Dubai, United Arab Emirates (CNN) – Activists continue to interact on social media about the statement of the Iranian Foreign Minister and the naming of the “Persian Gulf” and the reaction of his Saudi counterpart, Prince Faisal bin Farhan, during their press conference in Riyadh.

Political researcher Khalid Shelwan wrote on his page on the X platform (formerly Twitter), commenting: “The silence of the Foreign Minister indicates a solution to aggression through negotiation and understanding, not response and escalation in the meeting, and in front of the world, we do not deal with antagonisms or selling illusions. Is it better to go up to the meeting and go out, we all go back to wars I hope for calm and its solution behind closed doors. Some of the clauses in the China agreement were secret. This is evidence that it is to save face, and we all know who was asking all countries to reconcile with us. Praise be to them, but look at them!So face-saving clauses happen in every agreement between countries in the world so that they don’t.. Finally: You remember how we changed the meeting hall in Tehran because of the picture of the graves, so do you expect that our silence has no significance? Not out of love or hate.”

And the Saudi journalist, Hussein Al-Ghawi, wrote, saying: “Oh, God, cut off your relations with Iran because it said the Persian Gulf! We say that it is the Arab Gulf and Iran claims that it is Persian, even the United Nations in its letters to the Gulf states describes it as Arabic and to Iran describes it as Persian .. So you and I calm down.”

Abdullahian had said at the press conference: “In continuation of previous talks between me and officials and heads of neighboring countries in the south of the Persian Gulf, I put forward the idea of conducting regional dialogue and cooperation, and I put forward this idea with my colleague Faisal bin Farhan.”

Four Americans Released from Iranian Prison, More Work to be Done: US Secretary of State

by Chief editor of world-today-news.com August 10, 2023
written by Chief editor of world-today-news.com

(CNN) — US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said Thursday that the US State Department has spoken with the five Americans wrongfully detained in Iran who are now under house arrest, and four of them have been released from an Iranian prison.

“I don’t want to get ahead of ourselves, because there is more work to be done to bring them home, and I think this is the beginning of the end of their nightmare, the nightmare that their families lived through,” Blinken said at a joint press conference with Mexican Foreign Minister Alicia Barcina Ibarra at the State Department. “.

He added that he “was not aware of any other Americans being unjustly detained in Iran,” and said, “I am not aware of anyone other than the five we are talking about.”

“There will be no sanctions relief for Iran in exchange for the Americans being released,” he said, adding, “Iran will not get any sanctions relief, and in any case we will be involved in such efforts to bring Americans home from Iran, Iran’s money will be used and transferred to the frozen accounts.” So that the money can only be used for humanitarian purposes, which is what is allowed under our sanctions as you know.”

He continued: “We will continue to impose all of our sanctions, and firmly address Iran’s destabilizing activities in the region and beyond, including providing Russia with drones for its war of aggression against Ukraine, and none of these efforts detract from that. These are completely separate paths. We have focused on returning our citizens to homeland, but we continue to take strong action against Iran’s other activities that we and many other countries strongly object to.”

CNN had previously reported that $6 billion of Iranian money held in a frozen account in South Korea would be more readily available for “non-sanctioned trade” in goods such as food and medicine.

Saudi Arabia and Kuwait Assert Ownership of Submerged Area, Call on Iran to Negotiate

Dubai, United Arab Emirates (CNN) – Saudi Arabia said, on Wednesday, that it and Kuwait “reaffirm that ownership of the natural resources in the divided submerged area, including the entire Durra field, is a joint property between the two countries only, and they alone have full sovereign rights to exploit the wealth.” in that area.”

And the Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated, in a statement: “Saudi Arabia and Kuwait renew their previous and repeated calls on Iran to negotiate about the eastern border of the submerged area divided with Saudi Arabia and Kuwait as one negotiating party, and Iran as another party, in accordance with the provisions of international law and the principles of good neighborliness,” according to the Saudi Press Agency (SPA). .

For its part, the Kuwaiti Ministry of Foreign Affairs said, in a statement, that “Kuwait and Saudi Arabia reaffirm that ownership of the natural resources in the divided submerged area, including the entire Al-Durra field, is a joint property between the two countries only, and they alone have full rights to exploit the wealth in that area,” according to the agency. Kuwaiti News (KUNA).

She added, “The two countries renew their previous and repeated calls for Iran to negotiate about the eastern border of the submerged area divided with the two countries as one negotiating party and Iran as another party in accordance with the provisions of international law and the principles of good neighborliness.”

It is noteworthy that Iran announced, on Sunday, its adherence to its “rights” in the Dorra field, and the Iranian Oil Minister, Javad Oji, confirmed the eligibility of Tehran’s position in the “Arash” or Dorra gas field, saying: “If there is no desire to reach an understanding and cooperation, Iran will put on its agenda securing its rights and interests, extracting and exploring for these resources, and will not bear any loss of its rights,” according to the official Iranian News Agency (IRNA).

“Iran has always supported peaceful solutions on land and water border issues with neighboring countries,” Oji said, on the sidelines of a seminar on plans and projects for joint oil and gas fields.

And he continued: “We have always followed the method of negotiation and understanding with the neighbors, and on the field of” Arch “We also demand a unified and joint extraction from it.”

Earlier, Kuwaiti Oil Minister Saad Al-Barrak said that the Al-Durra field is considered joint property exclusively between Kuwait and Saudi Arabia only, and that whoever has claims should demarcate the borders, in reference to Iran, according to the Kuwait News Agency (KUNA).

And last month, the Kuwaiti Ministry of Oil announced that the Kuwaiti-Saudi permanent joint committee “discussed accelerating the pace of work and achievements in oil projects related to the onshore divided zone, and the submerged zone adjacent to it.”

This was accompanied by official Saudi statements, which considered that “the ownership of the natural resources in the divided submerged area, including the entire Dorra field, is (shared ownership between the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the State of Kuwait only),” according to the statements of a source in the Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs, reported by the official Saudi Press Agency.

The source said that Saudi Arabia “renews its previous calls for the Iranian side to start negotiations to demarcate the eastern border of the submerged area divided between the Kingdom and Kuwait as one negotiating party opposite the Iranian side, in accordance with the provisions of international law.”

And Saudi Arabia and Iran announced in March that they had agreed to restore diplomatic relations after 7 years of hostility in an agreement between the two regional rivals, which could have wide repercussions for the Middle East, but the pending dispute over the Dorra field may pose some challenges to this agreement, which China mediated.

Pentagon Deploys Additional Forces in Response to Iranian Attempts to Seize Commercial Ships

by Chief editor of world-today-news.com July 21, 2023
written by Chief editor of world-today-news.com

(CNN) — The Pentagon announced, Thursday, the deployment of additional forces in the Middle East, including thousands of Marines, in response to recent Iranian attempts to seize commercial cargo ships.

The decision comes after the ministry said, earlier this week, that it would send F-35 and F-16 fighter jets to the Middle East, as well as the destroyer USS Thomas Hudner.

“The new forces will add unique capabilities to the region in order to further protect the free flow of international trade and support existing rules of the international order,” said General Michael Korella, commander of the US Central Command, “Centcom”.

And earlier this month, the United States intervened to prevent Iran from seizing two tankers in the Gulf of Oman, including a case in which an Iranian ship fired on an oil tanker.

Either way, a US Navy destroyer arrived on the scene, forcing the Iranian ships to sail away from the area.

At the time, US Under Secretary of Defense for Political Affairs Colin Kahl said, “These incidents have received the most attention from the Department of Defense.”

According to a senior US defense official, after the attempted takeover, the US began flying A-10s over the Strait of Hormuz, the planes being equipped with weapons capable of targeting Iranian fast-attack boats and other naval targets.

The planes were deployed to the region in late March, after a series of attacks on American sites by Iranian-backed militias.
