FLORIDA – Spent more than 6 hours in space, two astronaut NASA has successfully installed a solar panel array on the International Space Station (ISS). The 340-kilogram solar panel on the right side of the ISS backbone serves as an energy source.

Two astronauts NASA namely Stephen Bowen and Warren “Woody” Hoburg, carried out this important task on Friday June 9, 2023. Bowen and Hoburg, Expedition 69 mission crew wearing special space suits exited the Quest airlock and began work outside the ISS station.

Bowen heads to where the new International Space Station Roll-Out Solar Array (iROSA) is temporarily installed. Meanwhile, Hoburg retrieved and installed a portable leg brace on the end of the Canadarm2 robotic arm.

He then climbed onto the arm, which was controlled by United Arab Emirates (UAE) astronaut Sultan AlNeyadi from inside the space station. After Bowen removed the iROSA from the pallet, Hoburg held the 340-kilogram solar panel to carry it to its mounting cradle on the right side of the station’s backbone frame.

Hoburg holds the rolled iROSA as AlNeyadi moves an arm to move it and the hardware to a new location. The two astronauts then waited, to lay the cable connecting the new iROSA to the station’s legacy 1A power line solar array.

“It looks good. It looks like it lays out well, and everything seems to line up,” said Bowen, describing the new solar panel array as it unrolled.

Like the four previously deployed solar panels, the new array is 18.2 meters long by 6 meters long. Each new IROSA generates more than 20 kilowatts of electricity, and once all the arrays are installed, will allow a 30% increase in power production aboard the ISS panels.

After completing the main assignment for the spacewalk almost an hour ahead of schedule, the two astronauts re-entered the ISS. This spacewalk is the first from Hoburg and the ninth from Bowen.

Bowen has spent a total of 60 hours and 22 minutes in EVA, ranking him fifth in the world for the most time working in a vacuum. This is the seventh spacewalk for this year and the 264th dedicated to the assembly and maintenance of the International Space Station since 1998.

NEW YORK – NASA plans to build a space observation station on the Moon. Unmitigated, the size will be as large as Washington DC.

As reported by Live Science, Monday (1/5/2023), the observation station will be accompanied by a wide array of antennas. In addition, a 77-square-mile telescope will also be built that snakes over the surface of the moon.

The radio telescope, called the FarView Observatory, will allow astronomers to go beyond current limitations.

They can see what other instruments cannot see called the “Dark Ages” of the universe.

“I have personally advocated radio telescopes on the moon for 40 years now,” said Jack Burns, a professor in the Department of Astrophysical and Planetary Sciences at CU Boulder who is a member of the FarView project.

“It will investigate parts of the universe that we haven’t been able to see before,” he continued.

To note, the radio telescope actually has a lot in common with the radio antenna in a car.

The telescope will be equipped with a giant dish capable of picking up radio waves that radiate through the cosmos from exploding stars, forming stars, black holes, and so on.

MOSCOW – Two Russian cosmonaut getting ready to do a spacewalk mission on the International Space Station (ISS), Tuesday (18/4/2023) night. They will be wearing Orlan’s new Spacesuits inside spacewalk mission which is scheduled to last 6 hours 40 minutes.

The two Russian cosmonauts who will carry out the spacewalk mission are Sergey Prokopyev and Dmitri Petelin. Previously they had twice failed to carry out spacewalk missions due to various technical problems.

First on November 25, 2023, their spacewalk mission failed due to a space suit pump disturbance. Three weeks later, the attempted spacewalk mission on December 15, 2023 was also aborted after the leak of the Russian Soyuz spacecraft.

This time the two cosmonauts are scheduled to do a spacewalk from the Russian Poisk spaceport on the ISS. They will be wearing the new spacesuits, Orlan.

“From there (Poisk), the two will maneuver to the Earth-facing side of the station and begin work on moving the radiators and experiment modules,” read a NASA blog post quoted by SINDOnews from the Space page, Tuesday (18/4/2023).

In this mission, the two cosmonauts will move two large pieces of equipment from the Rassvet module, namely the Rassvet radiator and airlock. The two test kits were sent into space in May 2010 on the space shuttle STS-132 mission.

Now the Russian space agency Roscosmos plans to transfer the equipment to Russia’s newest Nauka science laboratory which has just launched on the ISS in 2021. During all these spacewalks, cosmonaut Andrey Fedyaev will assist with robotic activities from inside the ISS using the European Space Agency’s robotic arm in Nauka , including carrying out the transfer of equipment after the preparatory activities are completed.

Prokopyev will wear his Orlan spacesuit with red stripes for tonight’s spacewalk, while Petelin will wear blue stripes. This spacewalk will be the third on the ISS in 2023, following the two previous missions by NASA astronauts on January 20 and February 2.

This spacewalk mission is Petelin’s second and Prokopyev’s fourth. In fact, Prokopyev has accumulated longer flight hours, almost 22 hours.

MOSCOW – Owned space capsule Russia The leaked Soyuz MS-22 left the International Space Station (ISS), Tuesday (28/3/2023) morning. Spacecraft unmanned landed in the Kazakh steppe about 91 miles (146 km) southeast of the city of Dzhezkazgan.

The leaked Soyuz MS-22 capsule lifted off from its docking station in the Russian-built Rassvet module on the International Space Station (ISS) at 5.57 a.m. EDT (0957 GMT). The Soyuz returned to Earth on a swift landing and touched down in the steppe of Kazakhstan at 7:45 am EDT (1145 GMT).

“This de-orbit and descent to Earth went smoothly,” said the Roscosmos official in an official statement via Telegram after landing, quoted by SINDOnews from the Space page, Tuesday (28/3/2023). The image shows the Soyuz MS-22 spacecraft parachuting down and staying on its side after landing.

Russian engineers immediately examined the leaking Soyuz MS-22 capsule to determine the cause of the coolant leak and how it was performing. The Soyuz space capsule experienced a large coolant leak on December 14, 2022 making it unfit for use.

The Soyuz MS-22 spacecraft was used by Roscosmos to launch Russian cosmonauts Sergey Prokopyev, Dmitri Petelin and NASA astronaut Frank Rubio to the International Space Station in September 2022. Roscosmos engineers suspect the leak occurred as a result of a micrometeoroid impact.

Although unmanned, the Soyuz MS-22 module returns to Earth carrying a number of heat-resistant science experiments. According to Roscosmos the Soyuz MS-22 carries an old navigation module, an arm of the Russian Orlan space suit, a TV camera and other equipment.

“About 218 kilograms of cargo, including the results of scientific experiments and ISS equipment for analysis or reuse are expected to arrive on Earth on Soyuz MS-22,” a Roscosmos official said according to a TASS news report.

The recovery team will retrieve the Soyuz capsule after landing so it can be studied to better understand how the coolant leak occurred. Including, researching how the landing conditions without coolant to help future missions.

The Russians beat Cruise. They managed to make the first film shot in space earlier – News List

by Chief editor of world-today-news.com March 9, 2023
written by Chief editor of world-today-news.com

The challenge tells the story of a cardiac surgeon, Žena (played by Julija Peresildová), who is sent to operate on a space station with a team of doctors. Her patient is a cosmonaut (played by real-life cosmonaut Oleg Novitsky) who falls unconscious on the space station.

The film, shot in Earth orbit, was made in 2021 and will hit theaters next month, making it the first film in history to have a crew fly to work in space. Peresildová and the film’s producer and director Klim Šipenko together with cosmonaut Anton Škaplerov flew into space in October 2021 and filmed for 12 days.

American actor Tom Cruise also had a similar plan in 2020, who, together with producer Doug Liman, also wanted to shoot a film on board the International Space Station. Elon Musk’s company SpaceX was supposed to transport it there. But at the moment there is no new news about Cruise’s project.

Last time the film was mentioned was Donna Langley, chairman of Universal Studios, in an interview with the BBC on October 5, 2022. At the time, she hoped Cruise would be “the first civilian to conduct a spacewalk outside the space station.” She only revealed about the film’s plot that it will largely take place on Earth, but then the film’s hero “has to go into space to save the day.”

FLY – After finding a leak in the cooling system, the spaceship Soyuz MS-22 the Russian one is known to have holes up to 0.8 millimeters wide. Roscosmos and NASA are still evaluating the condition of the Soyuz MS-22 capsule, if necessary Russia soon to send a new spacecraft in March 2023.

The cause of the hole that resulted in the leak is still being investigated. However, Joel Montalbano, NASA’s ISS program manager, confirmed that the hole was not caused by the impact of the Geminid meteor.

“We have work to do to better understand if the leak was caused by a meteoroid or if there was a hardware problem,” Montalbano said as quoted by SINDOnews from the Space.com page on Saturday (12/24/2022).

On Sunday, December 18, 2022, NASA investigated the cause of the leak with a camera on the Canadarm2 station’s robotic arm. The investigation found a small hole in Soyuz MS-22, but it is not known how the hole appeared.

Another possibility is pieces of space junk. However, Sergei Krikalev, head of the Yuri Gagarin Cosmonaut Training Center near Moscow, said such an object would be too small to be tracked from Earth because the hole is only 0.8 millimeters wide.

Russia and NASA are still evaluating whether the leaked Soyuz MS-22 spacecraft is safe for repatriation of the International Space Station’s three crew members. If Soyuz MS-22 is deemed unsafe after it shot coolant into space on Dec. 14, Russia will immediately send a new replacement spacecraft.

“Our next crew is scheduled to fly (launch) in mid-March,” Sergei Krikalev said, during a press conference with NASA that was broadcast live.
