A woman with skin “like the wings of a butterfly” spoke candidly about her fatal illness (photo)

Every morning she wakes up to bubbles so strong they stick to her sheets.

A woman has described how the fatal, incurable disease leaves her skin blistered and feeling “as fragile as a butterfly’s wings”.

About it writes The Sun.

Assya Shabir from Birmingham, UK, was born with epidermolysis bullosa nodosa, a painful genetic disorder that affects the skin.

The 36-year-old woman often has to deal with blisters, open wounds, skin loss, friction and irritation, which seriously impacts her daily life.

She says the pus-filled blisters stick to her bed sheets and pajamas every day when she wakes up.

She is often “judged or ignored” by strangers and is in and out of hospital for home treatment.

Assya said: “My skin is as fragile as the wings of a butterfly. The slightest pressure or even a blow can cause blisters and scratches on my skin. “It’s not just an external phenomenon – I get blisters in my esophagus, eyes, mouth, gums and other areas. “It affects me not only physically, but also mentally and emotionally. It’s hard to find true friendships and relationships. Some people won’t acknowledge me—they’ll judge me or ignore me.”

Epidermolysis nodosa is a fatal type of epidermolysis bullosa, a group of skin diseases. Research shows that the number of people born with these conditions has decreased over the past 19 years. Life expectancy for children with the fatal disease also improved slightly due to improved newborn care, the researchers said.

Read the main news of the day:

Treatment contains dressings, creams and ointments to prevent life-threatening infections when the blisters turn into open sores. Some blisters must be pricked with a hypodermic needle to stop them spreading, and pain medications may be prescribed.

Assya says that because of this condition, she unfortunately has to endure people staring at her or making faces at her in public.

She said: “Most of the time I try not to react. But when I’m having a flare-up and I’m already feeling worse because the pain is unbearable, their looks hit hard and make me feel like crap. I’m sure you can imagine the comments I get.” . Ironically, this comes more from adults than from children – yes, of course, children comment on it, but they do not understand why I look different. One of the worst things I have come face to face with is “you looks like Freddy Krueger” and “your mom should have had an abortion.” I’ve also had cases where people push themselves or their children away from me. When I’m in the hospital, I’m sad because I think this might be the last time when I see my family, my nieces, nephew and my friends.”

Assia says four of her aunts tragically also suffered from the disease and died. “We’re not sure what type they had, but from what my mother remembers, they had the same wounds and blisters as I did. So, most likely, they did have epidermolysis bullosa nodosa. They all died in between three and 12 weeks of age.”

Last year, Assya was hospitalized with sepsis and feared for her life. But she says her faith and family help her get through difficult times.

To attract public attention, Assya shares her daily life on Instagram.

Recall that a two-year-old girl died as a result of a rare pigeon virus. She is the fifth person to die from the disease.

World’s Oldest Conjoined Twins: Laurie and George Chappell Defy Expectations

World’s Oldest Conjoined Twins: Laurie and George Chappell Defy Expectations

by Chief editor of world-today-news.com December 8, 2023
written by Chief editor of world-today-news.com

They exceeded all doctors’ expectations.

Laurie and George (formerly Dorie) Chappell from Pennsylvania, USA are the world’s oldest conjoined twins.

About it reports Guinness Book of Records.

They were born on September 18, 1961. Now they are 62 years old. They are craniopagus twins, meaning they share partially fused skulls, shared vital blood vessels, and 30% of the brain (frontal and parietal). This is the rarest form of conjoined twins, accounting for only 2–6% of cases.

Laurie is able to work, but George has a spinal cleft, so he cannot walk. To get around, he sits on a cart-type stool, pushing Lori.

Laurie and George became the first same-sex conjoined twins to identify as different genders when George came out as transgender in 2007. He has not had gender reassignment surgery, but he dresses and identifies as a man.

George previously went by the name Reba, inspired by singer Reba McEntire, as he didn’t like his name rhyming with his sister’s name.

The twins spent the first 24 years of their lives in an institution for the mentally retarded – despite the fact that neither of them was mentally retarded – after they were placed there by a court that decided their parents could not properly care for them.

However, Laurie and George were not completely cut off from their parents, who inspired their children to believe that God had intentionally created them that way, so the twins never complained about their condition or expressed a desire to separate.

“Are we going to break up? Absolutely not,” George said in the 1997 documentary. “My theory is: why fix something that isn’t broken?”

Since 1988, they had lived separately in a two-bedroom apartment, each with its own room, alternating nights sleeping in each.

George found success in the ’90s as a professional country singer, performing all over the world, while Laurie is a trophy-winning ten-pin bowler who worked in a hospital laundry for several years, fitting her work schedule around George’s performances.

Read the main news of the day:

The twins try to do everything as individually as possible, particularly showering: “We don’t always shower at the same time; in fact, almost never,” Laurie said. They achieve this by using a shower curtain as a barrier between them while one is showering and the other is standing by the bathtub.

They do their hobbies in their rooms, with one of them actually passing out while in the other’s room. “This is her room. I’m here in body, but that’s it,” Lori explained. “Just because we can’t get up and leave each other doesn’t mean we can’t be alone with other people or with ourselves.”

The twins have the same approach to their romantic lives: “When I went on dates, George would take books with him and because we weren’t looking at each other, he would ignore any kissing,” Laurie told The Sun in 2011.

Lori also revealed that she lost her virginity to her second boyfriend when she was 23. During sex, George said he could “act like he’s not there.”

Both twins are still single. In the past, Lori expressed a desire to have children, but this dream never came to fruition. She had several boyfriends throughout her life and was even engaged at one point, but her fiancé was tragically killed by a drunk driver.

Now in their sixties, Laurie and George have far exceeded the expectations of medical professionals who predicted the couple would not live past 30.

In fact, Laurie and George are the oldest female conjoined twins. If they live another six years, they will become the oldest conjoined twins ever, surpassing Ronnie and Donnie Galion (USA; 1951–2020), who died at age 68.

Recall that recently the oldest male triplets in the world celebrated a birthday. They were born on December 1, 1930.

The Secret Life of Molly Brodak: Coping with Loss and Moving On

The Secret Life of Molly Brodak: Coping with Loss and Moving On

by Chief editor of world-today-news.com December 5, 2023
written by Chief editor of world-today-news.com

This helped him cope with the loss.

A man learned about his wife’s secret life after her death.

About it writes nypost.com.

On March 8, 2020, Molly Brodak, a well-known writer and teacher at Atlanta University, shot herself to death. The woman was 39 years old. Her husband, also a writer, Blake Butler was devastated by the death of his lover.

“I knew she was depressed, but how could she give up on me? How could she give up on us? How could she give up on herself?” – commented the 44-year-old widower.

Young, talented and beautiful, the couple were something of a golden couple in local literary circles. Blake didn’t realize how unhappy his wife was, but as he wrote in his memoir Molly, he soon realized there was a lot he didn’t know about the woman he loved.

When Butler first met Brodak, she was in prison. They connected via Facebook. Butler didn’t know any other writers in Atlanta and was excited to meet Molly, a poet who lived in nearby Augusta, Georgia.

They made an appointment. That evening at the bar, she showed him a recent MRI scan and told him that she had previously had a brain tumor.

“She was a good woman who came out of nowhere and seemed to bring chaos with her,” he said. “I’ve always been attracted to wild women.”

Brodak shared her difficult childhood. Her father robbed banks to pay off his gambling debts and spent time in prison twice. She herself stole from the store. Her mother suffered from bipolar disorder and left young Molly virtually unattended. But she hid other aspects of her past: that she started using heroin at age 12, that she allowed her older boyfriends to burn her with cigarettes, that she was actually married when she first started dating Butler.

The couple married in 2017 at the top of Mount Arabia, a half-hour drive from their home. It was an intimate ceremony: the bride and groom and their mothers. They wrote their vows and read a poem by Czeslaw Milosz. Afterwards, they held a party at the Emory University campus museum. Their first dance was to Metallica’s “Nothing Else Matters.”

“It was kind of an adventure,” Butler said.

But soon after her death, Butler discovered that his wife had met one of her students just weeks after their wedding.

He went through her phone, looking for photos to show in the slideshow at her funeral. During this time, he found out that she had cheated on him with many men. He found numerous photographs of her posing in lingerie and with sex toys, as well as explicit videos of her saying other men’s names in a childish voice.

Digging deeper, he discovered emails containing seductive photographs addressed to her students at the various colleges where she taught.

He also discovered correspondence with a poet who had likely flown to Tucson to have sex from Broaduck during a writing retreat paid for by Butler.

“When I found out the lies she was hiding, it was kind of a relief,” Butler said. “It’s not that I failed her. It’s that she built this world of lies.”

He began writing Molly about a month after her death.

“I said out loud, ‘I’m going to write a book about you, and it’s going to be the best book I’ve ever written.’

He eventually concluded that Molly probably had a personality disorder.

Butler found love again and got married again in 2022. He and his new wife now live in Baltimore, and it’s a surprisingly happy ending to a tragic story.

“After my relationship with Molly, I really learned to think of the world as a place of pain,” he said. “I certainly wasn’t looking for love, I was looking for a way to destroy myself.”

Let us remind you that a woman caught her lover cheating and threw his things from the sixth floor. As a result, she was taken to the hospital.

In India, a schoolteacher was kidnapped and forced into marriage.

Creepy Human-Face Fish Spotted in Chinese Lake

written by Chief editor of world-today-news.com

An unusual fish was spotted in China.

An unusual fish with a “human face” was spotted in a Chinese lake.

About it writes Daily Star.

The creepy carp was caught on camera by a visitor to a village near Kunming in the south of the country.

Back in 2019, footage was published on the Chinese social network Weibo that showed a fish swimming to the edge of a lake and poking its head out of the water.

On the fish’s head there were dark spots that resembled eyes, two vertical lines that resembled the sides of a nose, and a horizontal line where the mouth should have been. “The fish has turned into a fairy,” the woman commented.

People were frightened by this sight: “This is scary,” “Who dares to eat this?”, “How terrible.”

Some have even compared the fish to Voldemort, the alien and animated fish from the 2004 animated film Shark Tale.

Let us remind you that a golden retriever gave birth unique puppy with green fur. Despite its unusual color, the puppy is healthy.
