Jakarta – Bank Indonesia (BI) has refuted reports circulating on social media, particularly X, claiming the central bank sold 11 tons of gold reserves in July.
Head of BI Interaction Department Ramdan Denny Prakoso firmly stated, “We can say that Bank Indonesia does not sell gold as mentioned,” in a written statement released Monday (October 6, 2025).
The denial follows a post from X user @k * l on September 3, 2025, which cited IMF data alleging a reduction of 11 tons in Indonesia’s gold reserves during July. The post read, “IMF’s latest data shows that Bank Indonesia reduces #Gold reserves by 11 tons in July. This means that our estimates published about the Global Central Bank’s net purchase of 10 tons in that month has now been revised to zero. We will record this revision in blogs and statistics next month.”
Ramdan urged the public and media to rely on BI’s official website for accurate details regarding foreign exchange reserves. “Please friends of the media can follow official information about the development of Indonesian foreign exchange reserves through the Bank Indonesia website,” he explained.
