“Hyundai and Kia Develop Stepless Swing & Sliding Door Technology for Chassis-Cab Vehicles”

by Chief editor of world-today-news.com May 23, 2023
written by Chief editor of world-today-news.com

Hyundai Motor Company and Kia announced on the 23rd that they have developed the first stepless swing & sliding door technology that can efficiently use the loading space of chassis-cab vehicles.

This technology, independently developed by Hyundai Motors and Kia, is designed to open and close the door on the side of the chassis cap loading box in both swing and sliding ways, so users can load and unload items in a convenient way according to their needs.

Currently, most of the side doors of the loading box of small trucks available on the market are provided only by pushing on both sides, so the rear door had to be used to unload objects of a certain size.

In addition, the side door is structurally moved to the inside of the loading space due to the front and rear steps, resulting in a loss of internal space as much as the thickness of the door. ‘Step-less swing & sliding door technology’ focuses on maximizing customer convenience by overcoming these limitations.

It has the advantage of being able to open the two side doors by sliding or swinging as needed, so that you can use the swing door when loading or unloading large items while using the sliding door.

In particular, the sliding method minimizes the loss of internal space by applying a mechanism in which the door that opens like the side door of the Kia Carnival moves to the outside of the fixed door. In addition, thanks to the application of flat front and rear doors without steps, watertightness has also been greatly improved.

Hyundai Motors and Kia applied hinges for swing function and guide rails for sliding function to the side of the loading box at the same time to realize this technology.

When the swing handle is raised, the fastening between the guide rail and the door is released, allowing the door to be opened and closed. When the sliding handle is pulled while the swing handle is level, the fastened part of the swing hinge is released and the door opens along the guide rail. way.

If ‘stepless swing & sliding door technology’ is commercialized, it will not only greatly improve the convenience of drivers operating logistics delivery vehicles, but it can also be used in various ways such as Purpose Built Vehicles (PBVs) to be released in the future. It is expected that there will be

An official from Hyundai Motors and Kia said, “The chassis cap loading box door opening and closing technology unveiled this time is a next-generation technology that will enable more convenient delivery services by reflecting the opinions and demands of logistics delivery drivers.” We will do our best to provide better value to our customers.”

On the other hand, Hyundai Motor Company and Kia recently completed patent applications for ‘stepless swing and sliding door technology’, and plan to review mass production after durability and performance tests.

Limited Decline in Won/Dollar Exchange Rate in Early Trading Hours on September 25th

by Chief editor of world-today-news.com April 25, 2023
written by Chief editor of world-today-news.com

On the 25th, the won/dollar exchange rate showed a limited decline in the early trading hours.

As of 9:32 a.m. in the Seoul foreign exchange market on this day, the won-to-dollar exchange rate is 1330.8 won, down 4.0 won from the previous day. The exchange rate is moving around 1330 won after opening at 1331.5 won, down 3.3 won.

The exchange rate seems to be giving back some of the gains from the previous day, affected by the weak dollar that appeared last night. Exporters’ negotiating volume (selling dollars) at the end of the month and growing wariness of the foreign exchange authorities’ fine adjustments after breaking through the tie-in point are putting additional downward pressure on the exchange rate.

However, the extent of the decline is likely to be limited as the won has been weak recently, paying attention to sluggish exports and trade deficits.

Moon Jeong-hee, a researcher at Kookmin Bank, said, “Despite the weak dollar, the won/dollar exchange rate is hardly falling.”

At the same time, the won/yen arbitrage exchange rate is 992.73 won per 100 yen. It fell 1.42 won from the standard price (994.15 won) at 3:30 pm the previous day.

“Korean Won to US Dollar Exchange Rate Rises on Weakening Asian Currencies”

by Chief editor of world-today-news.com April 24, 2023
written by Chief editor of world-today-news.com

On the 24th, the won/dollar exchange rate is on the rise in the early trading period.

As of 9:05 am in the Seoul foreign exchange market on this day, the won-to-dollar exchange rate is 1330.5 won, up 2.3 won from the previous trading day. After opening at 1332.5 won, up 4.3 won, the exchange rate is continuing the early trend of 1330 won.

The exchange rate is facing upward pressure as Asian currencies such as the renminbi weaken while the US tightening policy is prolonged. In particular, the weakening of the won is becoming more prominent as sluggish exports and continuing trade deficits add to geopolitical concerns.

Min Kyung-won, a researcher at Woori Bank, said, “The dollar fell over the weekend, but major Asian currencies such as the won, yuan, and Singapore dollar showed weakness reflecting concerns over additional hikes by the Federal Reserve.”

“There is a high possibility that the unfavorable atmosphere for risky currencies will be prolonged as investor sentiment in the stock market deteriorates due to concerns about fixed inflation (inflation),” he said. However, exporters’ negotiating volume (selling dollars) and the foreign exchange authorities’ wary of fine adjustments are factors that limit the rise.

At the same time, the won/yen arbitrage exchange rate is 993.76 won per 100 yen. It rose by 0.9 won from the standard price (992.86 won) at 3:30 pm on the previous trading day.

“US Factory Construction Hindered by Limited Availability of Megasites”

by Chief editor of world-today-news.com April 15, 2023
written by Chief editor of world-today-news.com

The US Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) and the Semiconductor Support Act have led to a rapid increase in factory construction in the US, such as promoting reshoring, but difficulties in securing a factory site are being pointed out as a limitation.

On the 13th (local time), Reuters reported that companies rushed to build factories in the United States to receive subsidies, but were having difficulty finding so-called ‘megasites’ to build them. A megasite is a large site of about 1,000 acres (4.05 million square meters) with transportation, low-cost energy, and a nearby supply of skilled labor.

As a result of a survey on the demand for megasites in the United States by Global Location Strategy, a consulting firm in South Carolina, USA, 20 factory construction projects were announced last year alone that would invest more than $1 billion and create at least 1,000 jobs in the United States. done. This is a significant increase compared to 15 the previous year and 8 in 2020, and in particular, for about 10 years before the recent surge, it was only about 5 per year on average.

The problem is that despite the abundance of land in the United States, there are not many sites that have all the conditions for a megasite to build a multibillion-dollar plant quickly. Scout Motors, Volkswagen’s off-road vehicle brand, surveyed 74 US sites last summer for a $2 billion plant.

However, most sites had to be eliminated, either because it would take six years to connect the rails, or because they could not source the clean energy essential for eco-friendly electric vehicles, or because they did not have access to skilled labor nearby. In the end, it was decided to build the plant on a 1,600-acre South Carolina site instead of the initially planned 2,000-acre.

US electric car maker Rivian considered building a $5 billion plant on a site outside Fort Worth, Texas. However, it would take some time for the site to be equipped with transportation infrastructure, so the plant construction project was eventually moved to Georgia.

Intel wants to build a semiconductor factory in Ohio, but the factory site cannot be close to railroads because it needs to avoid vibrations caused by trains passing by. Cubic PV, which manufactures silicon wafers used in solar panels, sought hundreds of plant sites ranging from 100 to 130 acres shortly after passing the IRA last year, but continued to run into obstacles. In some areas, it was expected that it would take two to three years just to install water and electricity.

Another limitation is pointed out that the new plant requires electricity demand. In particular, electric vehicle battery factories require large-scale power, but this is also facing difficulties as the United States focuses on building eco-friendly power plants instead of fossil fuel power generation, Reuters reported. “Building a plant requires thousands of megawatts of power, but at the same time the US is shutting down a lot of coal power plants,” said Didi Caldwell, president of Global Location Strategy.
