EU to Expedite Review of 2035 Combustion Engine Ban
Brussels – Teh European Union will review the planned ban on the sale of new combustion engine cars in 2035 “as soon as possible,” according to a Commission spokesperson, accelerating a previously scheduled review planned for next year. The move follows a meeting Friday between EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen adn representatives from the automotive industry.
The Commission signaled the shift after von der Leyen stated she had “heard the concerns of industry,” acknowledging “technological change in the mobility area and the geopolitical upheavals.” She added, “We will combine decarbonization and technology.” Industrial Commissioner Stรฉphane Sรฉjournรฉ’s spokesperson confirmed the legally mandated review would be carried out with increased urgency.
