The Impact of Imported Products on Local Convection Businesses in Indonesia

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – Entrepreneur convection from Bandung, Gratitude, who is one of the sellers on the online platform, recounted the impact of the rush of imported products into Indonesia. This was conveyed in accordance with a meeting with the Minister of Cooperatives and SMEs Teten Masduki.

Gratitude said that his business suffered huge losses due to the onslaught of foreign products bankrupt. “We are small convection difficult to compete with Chinese goods,” he said at the Ministry of Cooperatives and Small and Medium Enterprises Building, South Jakarta, on Monday, August 14, 2023.

He gave an example of one of the goods produced by his convection business, namely sweaters. According to Gratitude, his party can no longer compete with foreign products in terms of price. “So our convection must lie down,” he said.

According to Gratitude, the price of Chinese products is too cheap. For a sweater, the price is set at IDR 25-40 thousand. This price, he said, does not cover the cost of production.

This makes his business turnover down 30-50 percent. Unable to compete with products from outside, Gratitude chose to focus on developing his business from other products.
