Trump Deploys National Guard to Chicago and Halts Deployment to Oregon

National Guard Deployed to ⁢Chicago Amidst‌ Governor’s Protest

CHICAGO, IL – Three hundred members ‍of the U.S. ⁣National Guard have‌ been deployed to Chicago, Illinois, at the direction of⁢ President Donald Trump, sparking immediate condemnation from the state’s ‍Democratic Governor. The deployment, ‍confirmed by NOS News today, October 5th, at 02:39 local time, comes despite objections ⁢from both Governor Pritzker and Chicago’s‍ mayor.

The move escalates a growing‍ conflict⁤ between the Trump administration and Democratic leadership in several ⁤major U.S. cities, framed by the White house as a response to “persistent violent riots and lawlessness.” Governor Pritzker alleges he received an ultimatum from the ⁤Department of Defence on Saturday morning – described as “Call your troops, otherwise we will do it” – which he called “scandalous and on-American to demand ⁢from a governor to send troops against his will.” The location and specific deployment details of the National Guard members remain unknown.

President Trump has repeatedly alluded to utilizing the National Guard in Chicago, the largest city in Illinois. This action follows a similar,⁣ though currently blocked, attempt ‍to deploy ⁣the National Guard to Oregon, where a federal judge has temporarily halted the deployment pending a legal review. Earlier this year, ‍the National Guard was deployed to Washington D.C., justified by the President as necesary to combat crime,⁢ despite‌ data indicating a decrease in criminal activity. In Los‌ Angeles, the Guard was used to quell protests against migrant deportations.

During a speech to the U.S. Army on Tuesday, Trump stated his desire to ⁢”restore order” in cities including ‍San Francisco, Chicago, New York, and Los Angeles – all currently led by Democratic administrations – even suggesting these cities could serve as “training location[s].” The ⁣intent behind⁢ this statement remains unclear.

Pritzker: Trump Seeks to Federalize Illinois National Guard

by David Harrison – Chief Editor October 4, 2025
written by David Harrison – Chief Editor

Pritzker accuses Trump Management of Attempting too ⁣Federalize ⁣Illinois National Guard

CHICAGO – Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker has accused the Trump administration of attempting to federalize 300 members⁣ of the Illinois National Guard, escalating a conflict over the deployment of federal agents⁢ to the state.Pritzker alleges the move is a politically motivated effort to control, rather than ensure public safety, and vowed to resist the federal government’s actions.

The governor’s statement comes amid ongoing tension surrounding federal law‌ enforcement presence in chicago, particularly near the Broadview ICE facility. ⁢Pritzker has repeatedly asserted that state and local law enforcement are adequately equipped to maintain public safety and protect Frist Amendment rights, rendering the deployment of federal troops unneeded. This latest⁤ growth‍ marks a notable⁢ escalation, raising concerns about the potential erosion of state authority and the militarization of ⁢local ⁢law enforcement.

According to ‍Pritzker, the Trump administration‍ initially sought to deploy 100 troops to protect ICE facilities in Illinois. He further ‌stated the president reportedly told senior military leaders that cities like Chicago should serve as “training grounds” for troops – a claim⁣ that prompted ‍Pritzker to call for the invocation of the 25th Amendment.

“They will pull hardworking Americans out of their regular jobs and away from their families all to participate in a manufactured ⁢performance — not a serious effort to protect public safety,” pritzker said. “For‌ Donald Trump, this has never been about safety. this is about control.”

The governor emphasized⁢ he will not ‌deploy the Illinois National Guard to support what⁢ he⁢ characterizes as “Trump’s acts of aggression against our people.” He affirmed Illinois will continue to prioritize the safety of its residents, uphold the Constitution, and ‍defend the rule of law.

On Friday, Department of Homeland Security Secretary kristi Noem and U.S.⁢ Border Patrol official Greg Bovino were in Chicago‍ overseeing ICE‍ operations. CBS News⁣ Chicago has reached ⁤out to the Illinois National guard and the Attorney General’s Office‍ for comment but has not yet received a response.

Trump cuts nearly $8B in clean energy projects in targeted states

by Emma Walker – News Editor October 3, 2025
written by Emma Walker – News Editor

WASHINGTON (AP) – The Trump governance is rescinding ‍nearly $8 billion ⁣in funding for clean energy projects, targeting initiatives in 16 states, the Department of⁢ Energy announced ‌Thursday. The move, impacting grants‍ awarded under the ⁣2022 climate law signed by President Biden, represents a significant rollback of federal investment in green technology and⁢ fuels ongoing efforts to dismantle Obama-era climate policies.

The cuts affect projects across‌ the country, with recipients now having 30 days to appeal the DOE’s decision. This action follows the administration’s broader targeting of climate programs and clean energy grants, including‍ the recent rescission of $13 billion previously allocated for similar initiatives. The administration argues these regulations ‌are unjustified⁤ and hinder economic growth, while critics contend the cuts will raise energy costs and stifle innovation.

Awardees were selected from a pool of applicants and were notified of the funding terminations Thursday. The DOE did not promptly specify the criteria used to select the 16 ‍states affected, prompting questions from reporters at the White House, which the President ⁤declined to answer.

“This is yet another blow by the Trump administration against innovative technology, jobs and the clean energy⁣ needed to meet skyrocketing demand,” said jackie Wong, ‌a senior vice president at NRDC. ⁢

Conrad⁢ Schneider, senior‍ director at the‍ Clean Air Task Force, stated the decision “pulls the rug out”⁣ from communities and workers relying on the projects and “weakens the U.S.’s position in the global marketplace” for energy technologies.

Trump’s Immigration Crackdown Transforms Illinois Village Amid Tear Gas Fears

Broadview, Illinois demands ICE ⁢leave as Tensions escalate

Broadview,⁢ IL – A growing conflict between federal immigration authorities and local officials in Broadview, Illinois, has reached a⁢ boiling point, with Mayor Katrina⁤ Thompson and other leaders demanding the removal ⁢of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) from the⁣ Chicago suburb. The dispute‌ centers around ICE’s “Operation Midway Blitz,” a heightened enforcement effort in the Chicago area, and has been marked by protests, arrests, and accusations of misconduct.

Federal agents and protesters clashed outside an ICE facility⁤ in Broadview on September 29, 2025, as seen in images captured by Michael Loria of USA TODAY. (Images with aspect ratios 4:3 and 3:4 available here and here).

Department of Homeland Security officials maintain that immigration agents are operating appropriately⁣ under tough circumstances. Though, mayor Thompson and Broadview Police Chief Thomas Mills have accused ‍ICE of overreach and⁤ initiated a criminal ⁢investigation into⁢ federal agents in connection with two alleged hit-and-run incidents and‍ damage to a news reporter’s vehicle.

“These rioters are laying siege and interfering‍ with ‍legitimate law enforcement operations,” Immigration and Customs Enforcement Acting Director Todd Lyons said in a letter addressed to Thompson. “Failure⁣ to provide relief makes you a party to the obstruction of justice. There will be no change in our operational posture ‌until these‌ unlawful activities cease. The only siege in Broadview is the one being waged against the United States government.”

According to Homeland Security officials, 34 people have been arrested in connection with the‍ protests, including three individuals found to be carrying loaded firearms. Further‍ details regarding the arrests are currently‍ unavailable.

Agency officials⁣ have distanced themselves from the criminal allegations leveled by Broadview police, calling⁢ the investigation “bogus” and “political theater.”⁢

“Less than a week⁤ after a terrorist attack at an ICE facility in Dallas,” said agency spokesperson Emily Covington, “Mayor Katrina Thompson, Broadview⁣ Police Chief Thomas Mills, and acting Fire Chief Matt Martin ⁤chose to smear ICE and launch a‌ bogus criminal‍ investigation into our brave ICE law enforcement. It’s disheartening that even after the terrorist attack and arrests of rioters with guns outside the Broadview ICE facility, these sanctuary politicians ⁣chose to engage in political theatre ‍to⁤ inflame hatred of ICE.”

Federal agents have deployed chemical agents, including pepper spray and tear gas, to disperse protesters blocking immigration enforcement vehicles. On September 26, agents reportedly used these agents against protesters and journalists positioned ⁣on a road leading to the ICE facility located at ⁣1930 Beach Street in Broadview.

The situation unfolds as ICE enforcement continues largely uninterrupted during the ongoing government shutdown, according to DHS.

Venice, Illinois: Revival Through New School & Grocery Store

by David Harrison – Chief Editor October 1, 2025
written by David Harrison – Chief Editor

Venice, Illinois – A town once emblematic of economic⁤ decline is experiencing a resurgence thanks to a combination of state funding ⁢and private investment, bringing a new school and, ‍crucially, a grocery store to a community‌ long underserved. The developments signal a potential model for revitalizing small ⁤towns across Illinois and beyond.

For years, ‍Venice, located just across ⁢the Mississippi River from St. louis, faced ⁤a dwindling infrastructure and limited opportunities. The lack of a grocery store forced residents to travel notable distances for basic necessities. Now, a $2.4 million state grant from the⁤ Illinois Grocery Initiative is fueling the construction of a⁤ new grocery store, set to begin next month, alongside a medical clinic‍ and affordable housing. A new school ⁣has already been completed, offering a‌ beacon of hope for families.

“There are‌ no ⁣handouts here,” illinois Deputy Gov.Andy‌ Manar emphasized. “This starts at the root of people who want to change thier community, when you have that level of investment that we see here in Venice, that’s the bedrock for success.”‌

Former college basketball referee Michael Hightower is spearheading the effort, personally investing $3.5 million⁣ in the grocery store and managing it⁢ after ⁤leasing the building from the town.Hightower, a ⁢Venice native, sees the projects as a ⁤way ‌to give back. “This country kid who never thought, ⁤first of all, I’d get an education, to go as high as a doctorate in education… But my mom always taught us, you don’t get there by yourself,” he said.

The revitalization is already impacting⁤ residents like Alexis Williams,a lifelong Venice resident who⁢ enrolled her 5-year-old daughter,Navie,in the town’s new school. “I’m hoping that Venice grows and that she ‍doesn’t ⁤ever have to feel like she has to move away from home to have a better prospect in life,” williams said.

Manar views Venice as a pilot program⁢ for other small towns facing similar challenges, noting⁣ that the need for basic services like grocery stores transcends political divides. “There’s no political label ⁣you put on a community that has lost a grocery store,” ‍he⁣ added.

Illinois Governor Warns of Power Grab as DHS Requests National Guard for Chicago Immigration Crackdown

by David Harrison – Chief Editor September 30, 2025

ICE Requests National Guard support in Chicago Following Arrests, Sparking Concerns of Overreach

CHICAGO – U.S.Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has requested National Guard troops be deployed to Chicago amid heightened tensions following a series of high-profile immigration enforcement operations, dubbed the “Midway Blitz,” and allegations of aggressive tactics by⁤ federal agents.‍ The request comes as Illinois governor JB Pritzker and local advocates accuse ICE of targeting innocent community members and‍ escalating fears within immigrant neighborhoods.

The recent ICE operations have resulted in numerous⁣ arrests throughout the Chicago area. DHS officials maintain the operations are focused on detaining individuals with criminal records, citing arrests of individuals accused of crimes ⁢including sexual abuse of a child, domestic violence, and battery. ⁤

However, community members⁣ and Governor Pritzker dispute this claim. “They’re not ⁢targeting violent criminals or gang ⁢members,” Pritzker stated.”They’re targeting tamale vendors.”

Examples cited by supporters include the detention of Laura Murillo, a ⁤well-known tamale vendor on Chicago’s South Side, who was‍ detained⁢ on September 25. The September 12 fatal shooting of Silverio‌ Villegas González, a Mexican immigrant,‍ by an immigration agent ‌after dropping his sons off at school has further fueled outrage.

Concerns have also been raised regarding the tactics employed by federal agents. The Broadview ⁢Police Department is investigating reports⁣ of federal agents firing crowd control weapons at a⁢ news reporter’s vehicle. Homeland Security officials have‍ not responded to repeated ‍requests for comment regarding the inquiry.

Eréndira Rendon, a prominent Chicago-area immigration advocate and native of Mexico, expressed the fear felt within the community. “If ⁤you look like me,⁢ you are in danger,” Rendon said, breaking down in tears while reading a ‍list of names of those ⁤detained by immigration agents on September 29. ‍”DHS terrorizes our communities and showcases our pain on social media.”

Data from‍ the cato Institute, a libertarian think tank, indicates that in fiscal⁢ year 2025, 65% of immigration detainees have no criminal convictions, and 93% have no violent convictions.

The request for National Guard support has intensified the debate ⁣over ICE’s tactics and the scope of its authority, raising questions about the balance ‍between national‌ security and the rights of immigrant ⁣communities.
