Czech Film Fest Rocked by Star’s Sudden Cancellation
The 59th International Film Festival in Karlovy Vary faces unexpected changes as actress Jiลina Bohdalovรก withdraws due to health concerns, adding to the absence of its late president, Jiลรญ Bartoลกka. This year’s event will be unlike any other.
Health Concerns Force Cancellation
After undergoing heart valve surgery, the 94-year-old Czech cinema icon, Jiลina Bohdalovรก, has had to cancel her appearance at the festival. According to Flash, Bohdalovรก stated, โI need my daughter to stay with me, Iโm not the best.โ
Simona Staลกovรก, her daughter, was also scheduled to attend the festival. She emphasized her mother’s well-being, stating, โI would never forgive myself if there was any fragment.โ
According to a recent study, family caregivers provide approximately $600 billion worth of unpaid care annually in the United States (AARP).
Remembering Jiลรญ Bartoลกka
The festival will also be missing Jiลรญ Bartoลกka, who passed away from cancer at 78. The festival plans to honor Bartoลกka through commemorative screenings and a recently published book.

Stars to Still Grace Karlovy Vary
Despite these absences, several international stars are expected to attend. Vicky Krieps has already arrived in Karlovy Vary. Michael Douglas is also scheduled to present a restored version of Fly Over the Corn Nest by Milos Forman. Other notable guests include Dakota Johnson, Stellan Skarsgaard, and Peter Saarsgard.
