Ducati‘sโฃ V21L Electric Racer Breaks Ground with QuantumScape solid-state Battery
Munich, Germany – Ducati’s V21L electric โคmotorcycle prototype is now powered by a next-generation solid-state lithium-metal battery developed by QuantumScape, marking the fristโ time this technology has been integrated into a functioning electric vehicle. The โฃproclamation, made at IAAโค Mobility 2023, signals a pivotal step toward wider adoption of solid-state batteries, promising increased โฃrange, faster charging, and improved safety for electric โmotorcycles and possibly, cars.
This collaboration between Ducati andโข QuantumScape โคisn’tโค simply aboutโ speed on the track; it’sโ a demonstration of a technology poised too reshape the future of electricโ mobility. Solid-state batteriesโ address key limitationsโข of current lithium-ion technology, offering the potentialโ for considerably higher energy density and reduced fire risk. The triumphant integration into the V21Lโข prototype validates years of researchโ and development, bringing mass-market, affordable solid-state batteries closerโค to reality and impacting both consumer โand commercial electric vehicle sectors.
The โprototype motorcycle, a collaborative effort between Ducati and its โคelectric โmotorcycle โคresearch arm, features QuantumScape’s 24-amp-hour (Ah) solid-state battery cells. Theseโฃ cells are designed to deliver a higher energy density than conventional lithium-ion batteries, potentially extending the range of electric motorcycles without increasing battery pack size or weight. โDucati plans to continue โฃdeveloping the V21L for on-track testing as the project progresses.
“This marks a significant milestone in our journeyโ towards electrification,” stated โคRobertoโฃ Canรจ,Ducati eMobilityโ Director. “Working with QuantumScape allows us to explore theโค boundaries of battery technology and develop electric motorcycles that offer uncompromising performance and range.”
QuantumScape CEO โJagdeep Singh added, โ”We โare thrilled to see our solid-state lithium-metal โคbatteries powering a Ducati motorcycle. This is a testament to the potential of ourโข technology to โฃrevolutionizeโ the electric โvehicle industry.”
The V21L prototype and itsโข solid-stateโค batteryโ are currently on โdisplay โat IAA mobility in Munich through Septemberโ 17th. Further development and testing will continue, pavingโค the wayโ for potential future integration of QuantumScape’s technology intoโฃ Ducati’s production electric motorcycles.
