Actor Nicholas Alexander Chavez Reflects on Unseen Role

Despite his scenes being ultimately removed from the recent “I Know What You Did Last Summer” requel, actor Nicholas Alexander Chavez has expressed openness to returning for a future installment of the horror franchise.

Chavez, an Emmy winner, shared his thoughts after his and co-star Lola Tung‘s contributions to writer/director Jennifer Kaytin Robinson‘s film were cut. He told Us Weekly, “I mean, Jennifer is a good friend. She’s really, really cool people, and, you know, me and Lola had a really, really good time. But, like, look — that’s filmmaking.”

Australia’s Charm

Reflecting on his time during the production, Chavez focused on the positive experiences he had in Australia, rather than the unreleased footage. “All I could think about was my time that I spent in Australia, which was hanging out with kangaroos, going on hot air balloon adventures over the plains at sunrise, going cherry picking with my girlfriend. That’s actually all I remember when I think about that movie,” he stated.

When pressed about the character he portrayed in the deleted scenes, Chavez playfully remarked, “That’s left to other people!”

Sequel Prospects

With the film’s conclusion strongly suggesting the possibility of a sequel, Chavez remains optimistic about his potential involvement. He commented, “You know, ask me tomorrow, I’ll have a million different answers for you. The only thing that matters at this point in my career is just doing good material with people who I love and people who I believe in and who believe in me.”

Director’s Explanation

Robinson herself previously clarified the decision to cut Chavez and Tung‘s scenes. She explained to People, “In every movie, it’s best laid plans, and then you edit the movie and you put it together and you go, ‘I love this in a vacuum. This is a fantastic scene. But it doesn’t fit in the movie.’ It was just one of those situations where it had nothing to do with Lola and Nicholas — they are both so fantastic. I really would love to work with them again. I loved working with them. They did a fabulous job. But in the larger tapestry of the film, it just didn’t fit.”

Robinson acknowledged the disappointment this causes for actors involved, stating, “And it sucks when you love something as a scene but that scene just doesn’t work in the final cut of the film.”

This news comes as the original “I Know What You Did Last Summer” film from 1997 continues to be a touchstone for the genre; a recent survey indicated that 45% of Gen Z identify horror as their favorite film genre, fueling demand for new content (Source: Variety, 2023).

Jennifer Love Hewitt has finally addressed long-standing rumors about a relationship wiht her “I Know What You Did Last Summer” co-star, Sarah Michelle Gellar. In a recent interview with Vulture, the 46-year-old actress stated that she hasn’t spoken to Gellar since she was 18 years old.

This means that for nearly three decades, the two actresses had no contact, let alone collaborated on projects, until their recent appearance in the latest installment of the horror film franchise, which was released last Friday.

Hewitt expressed her confusion about the origin of these rumors, saying, “I honestly don’t know where it originally came from. I’m also confused why suddenly there is a noise or what.” She speculated that perhaps people are uncomfortable with narratives about women’s relationships that deviate from typical expectations.

In the original 1997 film, Hewitt portrayed Julie James, the protagonist who survives the terrifying events, while Gellar played Helen Shivers, a beauty queen who meets a tragic end.

Despite their shared involvement in the new film, their reunion was not marked by public displays of affection. Hewitt reiterated, “I didn’t find it at all. Literally, I’ve never talked with him again as the age of 18.” She added,”So when people start telling me ‘replied!’ or ‘Explain!’,I’m confused.”

While Hewitt maintains that she is unbothered by the situation, the lack of interaction between the two has fueled speculation among netizens. One instance that raised eyebrows was when Sarah Michelle Gellar was interviewed about Jennifer’s return for the sequel. Her response was brief, stating, “I’m not involved there,” before ending the interview.

Gellar later clarified this on Instagram Stories, explaining that she was hesitant to comment due to a non-disclosure agreement. she humorously advised young actors to be mindful of their reactions when meeting old friends, especially if they are still under contract.

Further fueling the speculation, Gellar posted the trailer for her new film, tagging most of the cast and crew but notably omitting Jennifer. However, it was later revealed that jennifer’s Instagram account had tagging limitations enabled, preventing her from being tagged.Despite these occurrences, the article suggests that the actresses are not enemies, but rather simply haven’t communicated. Gellar also mentioned that she missed the premiere’s red carpet because she was inside the building with her children.

“Regrettably Jlh did not come to after party. I also didn’t have time to take a photo with many other casts. But that didn’t reduce my admiration for all of them,” Sarah wrote on Instagram.

Amidst the circulating rumors, Jennifer Love Hewitt has chosen to remain focused on promoting the film and enjoying her return as Julie James, opting to avoid any unnecessary drama.
