Bunnings Enters Solar Market Amidst Growing Consumer Demand for Energy Independence
Canberra, ACT – Home improvement giant Bunnings has officially entered the Australian solar market, a move analysts suggest reflects a strong consumer desire to control energy costs and harness renewable resources. The company’s expansion into solar installations is not expected to significantly alter the already competitive landscape, according to industry expert Mr. Johnston.
Australia has witnessed a substantial uptake in solar energy, with over 4 million solar installations already in place across homes and businesses. These installations have, at times, become the primary source of electricity for the nation’s main grids.
Mr. Johnston highlighted that Australian households are increasingly motivated to gain greater control over their energy expenses by utilizing the abundant solar power available. He noted that many consumers have been holding off on solar installations untill battery storage solutions become more accessible, seeking a complete energy management system.
“Australians have a love affair with solar, have a love affair with the sun,” Mr. Johnston stated. “And yet, a lot of people have been really waiting till a battery comes until they act because they want the complete solution.”
He further explained the practical benefits of integrating battery storage with solar power. “These days, people recognize that solar power is great at reducing electricity bills. But if you can’t use the power, then you’re not going to get much money from it. And batteries solve that problem.”
Looking ahead, Mr. Johnston anticipates that “behind-the-meter batteries” could emerge as the second-largest power supply source during specific periods. Bunnings’ entry into this sector is seen as a response to this growing trend and a recognition of the market’s potential.
