west Bank Raid Leaves Three Palestinian Militants Dead

JENIN, West Bank‌ – Israeli forces killed three ⁤palestinian militants during a raid in the West Bank city of Jenin on Monday, according to Israeli and Palestinian sources. The incident underscores the ongoing violence in ⁣the region despite a recent ceasefire in Gaza.

The Israeli military reported conducting counterterrorism⁣ operations in the West Bank, stating its forces targeted militants.Hamas, the militant⁣ group controlling Gaza,⁤ condemned ⁢the strike and identified two of the deceased as members of its Qassam Brigades. The identity of the third⁣ man was described ⁤only as a “comrade.” ⁣

This latest clash occurs against a backdrop of escalating tensions and Israeli military operations aimed‍ at dismantling militant networks in the West Bank. Palestinians and human rights‍ organizations assert that a⁤ meaningful number of civilians have been killed and tens of thousands displaced during these operations.

separately,41 unidentified Palestinian bodies were buried in Gaza’s Deir al-Balah on Monday, part of a larger exchange with ⁢Israel for the return of hostages. israel has so far‌ returned 195 Palestinian bodies from⁢ its custody, fewer than half of whom have ⁢been identified. The return of these bodies followed ⁢the release of the last 20 living hostages ⁣held in Gaza, in ‍exchange ‍for approximately 2,000 Palestinian prisoners held by Israel. Many of those prisoners had been‍ detained for years without charge, while others were⁢ convicted in connection with attacks on Israelis.

The Gaza Health Ministry reports ⁢over 68,500 Palestinians have died in the two-year conflict, ‍though it does not differentiate between combatants and civilians. These figures are considered generally reliable by U.N.⁣ agencies and independent experts, though israel disputes ⁤the numbers without providing an choice count.

Title: Israel Identifies Hostages, Rafah Crossing Remains Closed Amidst Ceasefire Talks

by Lucas Fernandez – World Editor October 19, 2025

Israel Identifies Bodies ⁢of Two Hostages as Gaza Crossing Remains Closed

GAZA⁣ STRIP – Israeli authorities ‌announced sunday the identification of the bodies of two hostages recovered from the Gaza Strip, ‍as the Rafah crossing remained closed amid ongoing⁤ tensions and ‍negotiations for a lasting ‍ceasefire. The identities were withheld pending notification of ⁤families. The recovery marks a grim advancement in the conflict, highlighting the ⁤continued plight ‌of hostages held by Hamas since the October 7th attacks.

The identification comes as efforts to establish a post-war governance structure for Gaza continue. Former President Donald Trump has proposed‌ a plan involving the disarmament of Hamas ‍and the establishment of an internationally backed‍ authority to administer the territory. Though, Hamas‌ official Ghazi Kassem reiterated Sunday that the group will not participate in any post-war ruling authority, while maintaining that Hamas-run government bodies⁤ are⁢ currently operating to prevent a power vacuum. Kassem called for the swift formation of a “Community Support Committee” comprised of Palestinian ‌technocrats to manage daily ⁣affairs until a broader administrative committee is agreed ⁤upon by all Palestinian factions.

Simultaneously occurring,⁢ Hamas has rejected U.S. State Department claims of a planned attack against Palestinian civilians in Gaza, labeling the allegations as “false.” Hamas accused Israel of supporting armed groups operating in Israeli-controlled areas and⁢ urged the U.S. to pressure⁢ Israel to cease its support. The denial followed clashes between Hamas-led fighters and at least two armed groups in eastern Gaza City, which Hamas alleges‍ were involved in⁢ looting aid⁢ and collaborating with Israel. Several suspects were publicly executed by Hamas⁤ forces, actions widely ‍condemned internationally.

The Hamas-run ‍Interior Ministry stated ⁣its forces are working to restore law and⁢ order in‍ areas from which Israeli military forces have ⁢withdrawn following the ceasefire. The Rafah ⁣crossing, ⁣a⁢ critical entry point for humanitarian aid, remains closed, exacerbating the already dire conditions for civilians in Gaza.

Title: Israel Disputes Hamas Body Return Amid Hostage Tensions

by Lucas Fernandez – World Editor October 15, 2025
written by Lucas Fernandez – World Editor

JERUSALEM – Israeli authorities⁤ announced Wednesday that one of the bodies returned by Hamas as part of a ceasefire agreement was not that of a ⁢hostage, raising questions about the militant group’s handling of remains and complicating the sensitive exchange process.

The revelation comes as Hamas has⁢ released a total of eight bodies alongside 20 living hostages during‌ the first phase of the truce, with families of those still missing anxiously awaiting news. While Hamas claims ⁢recovering remains has been arduous due too the extensive damage in Gaza, the discovery of a non-hostage body underscores the challenges and uncertainties surrounding the fate of those unaccounted for and casts a shadow over the ongoing negotiations for ⁣further⁢ releases. The ceasefire, brokered by qatar,Egypt, and the United states, initially involved the release ⁤of 50 hostages held in Gaza in ‌exchange for ‌150 Palestinian ⁢prisoners held by Israel.

Four bodies were released Monday night, and ‍four more followed late Tuesday.Of the second group, three were identified as Uriel Baruch, Tamir Nimrodi, and Eitan Levi. Baruch was kidnapped from the ‌Nova⁤ music ⁢festival during the Hamas-led attack⁢ on Israel⁤ on Oct. 7, 2023, ‌which triggered the war ‍in Gaza. Nimrodi, who⁣ worked with the Israeli defense body overseeing humanitarian aid in Gaza, was taken from the Erez border crossing. The⁤ hostages Family Forum says Levi was kidnapped while driving ‍a friend to Kibbutz Be’eri during the Hamas attack.

Hamas ⁣and the Red Cross have cited Gaza’s destruction as hindering the recovery of remains, and hamas ‌has indicated some bodies ⁣are in areas under Israeli military control. Families of hostages have expressed distress over ‍the slow pace of returning the dead.

The Latest: Israel to halve aid into Gaza over slow return of dead hostages

by Lucas Fernandez – World Editor October 14, 2025

Israel ⁢to Halve Aid into Gaza Amid Hostage Recovery Concerns

GENEVA/JERUSALEM ‍- Israel announced Tuesday it will reduce the amount of aid entering Gaza by‍ half, citing concerns over the slow⁤ pace of returning⁢ the bodies ⁤of hostages ⁤held by Hamas. The decision comes as international organizations warn of catastrophic conditions‍ within the besieged ⁢territory.

According to a statement ⁣released ‍by Israel, the⁢ reduction in ⁤aid ⁤is linked to‌ a lack‌ of progress in negotiations for the return of the remains of Israeli citizens and soldiers killed during the October 7th attacks and subsequent conflict. Israel maintains‍ it adheres to its prison standards under law and investigates reports of violations regarding the treatment of Palestinian prisoners, but these claims are frequently challenged by human rights groups ⁣and media organizations.

The United Nations advancement Program (UNDP) estimates the⁢ scale of destruction‌ in Gaza is immense. Jaco Cillers, special representative of UNDP administrator for a⁢ program to help⁣ Palestinians, stated the amount ⁤of rubble currently totals approximately 55 million tons ‍- enough‍ to build 13 giant‌ pyramids in Giza‍ or cover New York’s Central Park to a ⁢depth of 12 meters (40 ⁣feet). The UNDP, along with the European Union and the World ⁢Bank, estimates $70 billion will be required ⁢to rebuild Gaza, a figure that⁢ has risen‌ from $53 billion in February. Cillers indicated $20 billion would be needed ‍in the next three‌ years, with the remainder potentially requiring decades to secure. He‌ also noted “good indications” from potential donors in the Arab world, Europe, and the‌ United States.

simultaneously occurring, Turkish‍ President Recep Tayyip Erdogan emphasized that a recent agreement signed in Egypt is not a peace deal, but⁤ a framework for a ceasefire. He urged the United States and other nations to pressure Israel to ensure compliance, citing concerns over Israel’s past ‍adherence to ceasefire‍ agreements. Erdogan reaffirmed ⁢Turkey’s commitment to a two-state solution recognizing Palestinian statehood and indicated‍ discussions are ongoing regarding potential deployment of Turkish‌ troops to gaza, focusing primarily on reconstruction and humanitarian aid, including ⁢the possibility of providing container homes.

Title: Gaza Ceasefire Begins: Thousands Return, Hostages to Be Released

by Lucas Fernandez – World Editor October 10, 2025
written by Lucas Fernandez – World Editor

Gaza City, Gaza Strip – After a four-day pause in fighting, thousands of Palestinians began returning to their homes in northern Gaza on ⁢Friday as the first phase of a ceasefire ⁣between Israel and Hamas commenced. The truce, brokered by ⁣Qatar, Egypt, and ⁣the United States, also includes the release of hostages held in Gaza in exchange for Palestinian prisoners held⁢ in Israeli jails.

The ceasefire began at 7 a.m. local time, and within hours, displaced Palestinians were seen⁤ walking ‌north along Salah al-Din Street, the main north-south road in Gaza, according to reports⁣ from the area. ⁣The United Nations estimates that⁣ approximately 1.7 million people – roughly 75% of Gaza’s population – have been displaced since the ⁣start of‍ the conflict on October 7.

Under the terms of the agreement, Hamas is to ⁣release‌ 50 hostages – women and children ⁢- over the four days. in⁣ return, Israel will release 150 Palestinians from it’s ⁢prisons, also‌ focusing ⁤on women and children.Khalil al-Hayya, a senior Hamas official and lead negotiator, confirmed Thursday evening that all women‍ and children held in Israeli jails would be freed.

The exchange is expected to begin⁣ Monday, though some officials suggest it could occur as early as Sunday night.⁤ Egyptian officials briefed on the talks and ⁢a Hamas official spoke on condition of anonymity due to the sensitivity of the negotiations.

The deal also addresses the fate of hostages believed to have died in captivity. ⁣A relative of one such hostage expressed hope for the return of remains for burial.⁤ “It’s a measured sense of hope in all hostage families,” said Stephen Brisley, whose sister,Lianne Sharabi, and her two teenage daughters were ‍killed in the Oct. 7 attack. Her⁤ husband, Eli Sharabi, was released, but her brother, Yossi, is ‍believed to have died in‌ an ‌airstrike in January 2024, and⁢ the family hopes to give him a dignified burial. “We hold our hope lightly because we’ve had our hopes dashed before,” brisley told The Associated‌ Press.

The conflict began when Hamas militants launched a surprise attack on Israel ⁤on October 7, killing approximately 1,200 ⁢people and taking over 240 hostages. Israel responded wiht extensive airstrikes and a ground offensive ‍in Gaza, resulting in a significant number of Palestinian casualties. Health‍ officials in Gaza report over 13,300 Palestinians have been⁢ killed as the start⁤ of ⁣the war.

The ceasefire does not address long-term political solutions⁢ for the region.A‌ previously proposed “Trump plan” called for an open-ended Israeli military presence in Gaza ‌and an ‍internationally-led reconstruction effort, but it was firmly ‌rejected by Palestinian leadership and offered only vague prospects for a future Palestinian⁢ state.

Gaza Peace Plan: Netanyahu, Trump Outline Proposal, Hamas Response Uncertain

by Lucas Fernandez – World Editor September 30, 2025
written by Lucas Fernandez – World Editor

Trump⁢ and Netanyahu Unveil ⁤Gaza Plan, Facing Immediate hurdles

WASHINGTON – Former President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu presented a 20-point ‌plan Monday aimed ‌at establishing a⁤ path toward peace in Gaza,⁤ a proposal instantly met with⁣ cautious responses from Hamas and internal opposition within Netanyahu’s own coalition. The plan outlines an interim management run by Palestinian technocrats, overseen by a “Board of Peace,”‌ and focuses heavily on reconstruction of the⁤ territory devastated by Israel’s recent military‌ campaign.

The proposal addresses key Palestinian concerns, ⁢explicitly stating there will be no expulsion of Palestinians‍ from‌ Gaza – a fear fueled by ⁤previous statements from both Trump ‌and Israeli⁤ officials⁤ regarding potential‌ “voluntary” relocation and redevelopment of the strip. it also ⁢details the continuation of the Gaza Humanitarian fund, a controversial ⁤food distribution ⁣system⁣ supported by Israel and the U.S.

Central to the⁢ plan⁣ is the reform of⁢ the Palestinian Authority (PA) to enable ‌it to eventually govern⁣ Gaza. ‍While ‍the plan offers a potential “credible‍ pathway to⁤ Palestinian self-determination and statehood” contingent on PA reforms and Gaza redevelopment, it offers⁢ onyl a limited commitment to statehood.

Qatar’s prime minister and Egypt’s⁢ intelligence chief‌ delivered the plan to Hamas negotiators Monday evening, ⁢who have pledged to review it “in good faith.” However, Hamas has thus far rejected demands for disarmament, maintaining its right to resist ⁤Israeli occupation.

Several Arab ⁤nations have publicly endorsed the outline. A joint statement from Egypt, Jordan, Indonesia, Pakistan, ‌Turkey, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates applauded ‍Trump’s proposal.

Important challenges remain within Israel. Finance Minister Bezalel smotrich, a key member of Netanyahu’s governing coalition, published ⁢a list of ‍”red lines” on X, stating any deal must exclude PA involvement in Gaza and preclude the establishment of a Palestinian state. Smotrich has previously ⁣threatened to‌ withdraw support from⁣ Netanyahu’s government if the war in Gaza is halted.

Netanyahu, though, indicated skepticism ⁣about ‍the PA’s ability to enact the necessary reforms, despite publicly welcoming ⁢Trump’s plan. He suggested a potential loophole, noting the proposal’s conditional nature regarding‍ PA involvement.
