SUNLAND PARK, โN.M. โ- Sunland Park โRacetrack โ& Casino has been sold to Penn National Gaming, Inc., a Pennsylvania-based gaming and racing company, marking a notable shift for the โEl Paso-area racetrack. The sale, finalized recently, aims to revitalize the track and potentially increase โฃinvestment in racing and casino operations.
The acquisition comes as Sunland โPark prepares to begin itsโข live racing โmeetโค in early January,โ a 55-day season concluding in early April 2026. the change in ownership is viewed with optimism โby trainers and industry stakeholders,who hope Pennโ National’s involvement will bring renewed focus and resources to the racetrack,aโฃ key regional hub for thoroughbred and quarter horse racing.
“Sunland Park is โคa grate track, it’s home for our team and I love being there,” said quarter horse trainerโ Eric Valenzuela, who has run horses at Sunland Park for six years.”I hope it โcontinues to be a great place to be.”
The racetrack is known for hosting the annual โคSunland Park Derby, a prominent stakes race for 3-year-old thoroughbreds. The Derby offers pointsโ toward eligibility for the Kentucky Derby, drawing regional and national attention.
