Rail safety Week 2025: A Callโฃ for Vigilanceโ onโค Canada‘s tracks
ottawa,โฃ Ontario – September 15, 2025 – As Canada observes Rail Safety week 2025, โthe Honourable Chrystia Freeland, Minister of transport and Internalโฃ Trade,โ today โคunderscored the vital role railways play โin connecting communities and the โongoing commitment to ensuring safety acrossโ the nation’s extensive rail network.
For generations, Canada’s railways have beenโข integral to the country’sโข development,โ weaving a network that links families and โfacilitates commerce. With many Canadians residing near railway lines, awarenessโค and caution are โparamount.
Minister Freeland acknowledged the crucial work of organizations like Operation Lifesaver Canada, which spearheads annual awareness campaigns during Rail Safety Week. Theseโค efforts are focused on reducing theโข tragically frequent incidents of fatalities and injuries that โขoccur along Canadian rail lines. The dedication of groups such as Canadian Safety Train Express and the railways themselves, through โขyear-round outreach programs, was also โhighlighted.
Theโ government of Canada โขis actively โinvesting in โคrail safety through programsโ like the Rail Safety Improvementโข Program. This initiative provides funding and support to communities and railway companies to โคenhance safety features at crossings and along rail corridors. Transport Canada โขinspectors diligently โmonitor and enforce stringent safety standardsโค nationwide, โacting asโค a โkey regulator within the railโ sector.
Whileโข Canada boasts one of โขthe safest rail networks โglobally, complacency isโ not anโ option. Ministerโ Freeland emphasized the importance of individual vigilanceโค around trains and tracks. โข”Canadians can โdirectly contribute to rail safety in their communities simplyโข byโ paying carefulโ attention โwhen approaching crossings or being near railway tracks,” she stated.
“Onโฃ behalf of the โGovernment of Canada, I extend my gratitude to everyone dedicated to prioritizing rail safety,” concluded โฃMinister Freeland. “I urge allโฃ Canadians to remainโ mindful of safety โat all times.”
