Gary Neville Slams Amorim‘s “Unforgivable” Decision as Man United Crisis Deepens
Manchester, UK – Manchester United legend Gary Neville has launched a scathing critique of manager Ruben Amorim, branding a recurring tactical decision as “unforgivable” and expressing deep concern over the club’s trajectory. The red Devils suffered another damaging defeat on Saturday, falling 3-1 to Brentford and sinking to 14th place in the Premier League table.
pressure is mounting on Amorim, currently the frontrunner in the Premier League sack race, despite reports suggesting he’ll be given more time to salvage the situation. However,Neville believes the manager’s rigid adherence to a 3-4-2-1 system, coupled with questionable in-game choices, are actively hindering the team’s progress.
Speaking to NBC Sports, Neville singled out Amorim’s repeated deployment of Mason Mount in an unfamiliar left-wing-back role as a particularly egregious error.
“I am very worried, there is no point in me sitting here and saying I’m not,” Neville stated. “The levels of performance, the results and the substitutions yesterday… I saw something at the end of the Grimsby game… Mason Mount ending up at left wing-back. We admire managers who are stubborn and resilient around their system, but when you have Mason Mount playing at left-back, you are going to look pretty stupid.”
Neville emphasized this wasn’t an isolated incident, having witnessed the same misstep in a previous match. “It has happened twice now and it can’t happen. The first time I thought it was unforgivable and yesterday it happened again.”
Beyond the Mount issue, Neville also criticized Amorim’s constant shuffling of the defensive line. “He changes his back three and his back five every single game and the performances and the results are just unacceptable.”
While hesitant to call for Amorim’s immediate dismissal, acknowledging the difficulties of the managerial role, Neville admitted, ”I suspect the hierarchy are going to want to see a turnaround.”
The defeat to Brentford adds to a growing sense of crisis at Old Trafford, with questions swirling around the club’s direction under its new ownership and the future of its manager.
