Donald Trump is reportedly seeking to have the new โฃWashington โคCommanders stadium named โคin his honor, โaccording โขto sources โขcited by ESPN’s Adam Schefter and Don โVan Natta Jr. A seniorโค White House source stated, “It’s whatโ the president โwants, โขand it will probably โhappen.”
The โคproposed $3.7 billion stadium isโ planned โคfor the siteโ of the formerโค RFK โขStadium inโค Washington, D.C., where theโ Commanders played from 1961 to 1996, winning three โSuper Bowl titlesโข during that period. The Commanders are contributing $2.7 billion to the project and will cover any โฃcost overruns. Construction is anticipated โคto begin next year, with โcompletion slated for 2030.
Commanders ownerโข Joshโข Harris has reportedly been informed of Trump’s desire.โ While no formal negotiations โขhave occurred, Trump is scheduled to attend Sunday’sโข game between the Commandersโ andโข the Detroit Lions at theโข team’s current home, FedExField โin Landover, Maryland, asโข a guest of Harris, โขpossibly opening a dialog about the naming rights.
Sources indicate the Commanders may not have complete controlโค over stadium naming decisions. The columbia โCouncilโฃ approved the stadium projectโ in September.
