Stampede Fall to Fargo 5-2 After Second-Period Surge
SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (Dakota News Now) – The Sioux falls Stampede’s four-game winning streak was broken Friday night as they lost 5-2 to the fargo Force in their frist home game in nearly a month.
The game began with a slow first period, punctuated by offsides and icing calls. Fargo broke the scoreless tie at 14:37 when Brooks Cullen scored, giving the Force a 1-0 lead. Despite a subsequent tripping penalty against Fargo, the Stampede were unable to capitalize on the power play.Fargo led in shots 11-9 after the first frame.
The second period saw a important shift in momentum for Fargo. They quickly extended their lead to 2-0 less than a minute into the period and then to 3-0 shortly after with a goal that deflected off the post. The Stampede challenged the goal, but the call stood. Sioux Falls responded at 8:26 with a goal from Brock Schultz, assisted by Joey Macrina and Brent solomon.However, Fargo answered late in the period, scoring after a scramble in the crease with Jack Torr credited with the goal, making it 4-1. Fargo outshot the Stampede 9-6 in the second.
Schultz scored again early in the third period at 4:23, assisted once more by Macrina, bringing the score to 4-2. The Stampede successfully killed off a tripping penalty called against Dane Sorensen later in the period. With just over three minutes remaining, Sioux Falls pulled goaltender Linards Feldbergs for an extra attacker, but Fargo capitalized on the empty net with under 30 seconds left, securing a 5-2 victory. The Stampede outshot Fargo 14-7 in the final period.
Feldbergs finished the night with an 11-5-1-0 record on the season, a 2.40 goals-against average, and a .910 save percentage.
The Stampede return to the PREMIER Center on Friday to host Team USA NTDP for their annual Teddy Bear Toss game. Fans are encouraged to throw a teddy bear onto the ice after the Herd score their first goal. Sioux Falls will then face NTDP again on Saturday for “A Charlie Brown Christmas” night, featuring special Peanuts-themed jerseys available for auction on Dash. The first 1,000 fans in attendance will receive a Stampede sock giveaway.
