Kawthar Bin Haniyeh Shares Hindโข Ragab’sโฃ Mother’s Gratitude Following Venice Film Festivalโข Recognition
Following the acclaim received at the Veniceโ Film Festival, director โKawthar Bin Haniyeh shared a poignant message from Wissam Ragab, the mother ofโฃ six-year-oldโ Hind Ragab, a Palestinian girl martyred in Gaza in january 2024. The film, โ”Hind Ragab’s โVoice,” recounts the tragic events surrounding Hind’s death, highlighting the broader suffering of Palestinians during the ongoing โขconflict.
Theโ film focusesโข on theโค harrowing events of january 29, 2024, when the Palestinian Red Crescent receivedโฃ a desperate plea forโค help from Hind, who was trapped โคin a car under fireโ in gaza’s tal Al-Hawa โneighborhood. She andโค her โขfamily, including her uncle Bashar, hisโ wife, โขandโ childrenโ Sarah, Layan, Raghad, and Muhammad, where โคtargeted near the Faris Petroleum Station. โคHind’s final words, pleading for rescue – “Come cheeks meโฆ Range on someone comes toโ take meโฆ Amanaโฆ I amโ afraid ofโฃ darkness” – were captured during a phone call with the Red Crescent,โ who were unable to reach her โdue to the ongoing Israeli occupation โforces’ actions. โ hind, along with her uncle, aunt, and cousins, were all killed. The initial distress โcall came from Hind’sโฃ cousin, Lian Hamada, before sheโ was also martyred.
Wissam Ragab, through Bin Haniyeh,โค expressed her gratitude to the film’s โฃteam andโ all those who supported the project.โ “I โฃwant to thank you,โ the entire team, and everyone who supported โthe film, supportedโ me, โand โsupported this story,” she stated. She expressed her hope that the worldโฃ would notโ forget hind’s story,โ emphasizing that “there are still many โขchildren waiting for hope”โฃ in gaza.
Bin Haniyeh underscored theโข urgency โคof the situation, notingโ that Hind’s mother and other family members, including her brother Iyad, remain in Gaza andโ are in constant danger. She appealed to worldโ leaders to โintervene โand save their lives, framing their survival not as โan act of charity, but as a matter of justice and humanity.
“Tonight, โthis story is โขnot only about the anniversary,โ but aboutโค theโ urgency,”โค Bin Haniyeh โstated.
“Hind Ragab’s Voice” features Palestinian โactors Moataz Melis, Clara Khoury, amer Halhel, and โSaji Keelane and hasโค garnered executive producer support from Brad Pitt,โ joaquinโฃ Phoenix, and Rooney Mara. The film serves as a powerful testament to theโ ongoing genocide faced by the Palestinian people and โขa call for accountability forโ the actions of the Israeli regime.โค Bin Haniyeh concluded by calling for an “unbearable ending” to the suffering.
