Ohio Hike Named Among America’s Most Haunted
Logan, OH – A โtrail within Hocking hills โขstate Park in โขOhio has been recognized as one of the mostโค hauntedโ hiking locations in โthe United States, according to a recent report by Outside Magazine. Old Man’s Cave โtrail was included โคon โคthe publication’s list of “13โ of the Most Haunted Hikes in the U.S.”
The popular 1 to 1.5-mile one-way loop trail derives โits name from Richard Rowe,an early settler who resided in one of the caveโ systemsโข within the park. It’s one of seven major trails โขwithinโ the 2,356-acre state park located in southernโข Ohio. Hikers can expect to โnavigate staircases within a gorge and encounter multiple waterfalls and striking sandstone cliffs, though sturdy,mud-ready boots are recommended.
The trail’s spectralโ reputation stems from the circumstances surrounding Rowe’s death. Outside Magazine reports that Rowe died in โa gun accident near the cave, and his final resting place โremains unmarked. As than, hikers have reported sightings of โRowe’s ghost, frequently enough accompanied by his hound โdogs.
Beyond Old Man’s Cave, Outside Magazine โขalso highlighted the moonville Tunnel, also near Logan,โ as another haunted location in ohio. Local lore attributes the tunnel’s ghostly activity to railroad workers who โwere fatally struck by a train in 1859. Visitors have claimed to witness flickering lanterns believed to be those of the deceasedโฃ workers.
As Emilee Coblentz wrote for โ Outside Magazine, the area โoffers a unique blend of natural beauty and chilling history for adventurous hikers.
